What You Need to Know About Peugeot Keys
Peugeot has changed its image over the last few years by introducing a distinct design for its vehicles. They are easy to drive and have a gentle steering, and there is no body leaning in higher speeds.
Our mobile auto locksmiths use the latest equipment and know-how to create an entirely new car key for your Peugeot. This includes a transponder chip that's embedded into the vehicle.
Mechanical
Peugeot began their manufacturing venture in the early 1800s using kitchen equipment and hand-tools. The company began by making umbrella frames and wire wheels before moving onto bicycles. They were the first to use rubber tires in 1892.
In 1900 the company had added cars to their range of production. Early models resembled carriages that were not steered by a tiller. Peugeot began to develop motorcycles at this time.
Modern Peugeot keys are more complex than mechanical pieces of metal. They also have a transponder chips inside that provides additional security features to keep thieves from hotwiring your car. If the key becomes damaged or lost the car will not start the car but will display an alert message on the dashboard.
If you see an alert light in yellow which appears to be waves with an evaporator floating above and displayed on your dashboard it's probably your Peugeot telling you that your engine is overheated. This could be because of the acceleration being too fast or a leak in the cooling system. It is essential to stop the vehicle and allow the engine to cool down. If this persists then you should seek out professional help from an Peugeot mechanic or dealership as soon as you can.
Another issue that is common is a red warning sign that shows two cars as well as the star with a red outline underneath. This means that the Peugeot's forward collision detection system is turned off and needs to be turned on.
Transponder
Before transponder keys became an everyday feature in cars, it was fairly simple for thieves to get into your vehicle. They could simply turn the ignition switch to turn on and start the car. This is however no longer possible as most modern cars have an anti-theft device that has an encryption chip embedded in the key.
The microchip that is in the key is a small device that has a non-volatile (meaning that it does not erase when power is cut) memory. The chip has a unique serial number, which is used as the "password" to start the engine. When you insert the key into your ignition, the chip will transmit the password to a receiver in the immobilizer of your car. If the code is valid, the car will start and you'll start your journey.
If you lose your key then you'll need to find a locksmith who is reputable and can replace it. They will use an instrument that can read the required frequency from the transponder chip in your vehicle and then create a brand new one for you. This is usually less expensive than going to the dealer of your vehicle. Just make sure that the locksmith you choose has this equipment prior to hiring them. You may end having to pay more for your keys than you're required to. Ask peugeot 107 key if they're using high-quality blanks for your car model.
Distance Learning
Peugeot cars come with an immobiliser controlled by an embedded glass chip inside the key. The chip is able to store an unique code. When the key is put in the ignition the code is read by the car's immobiliser to determine if the key is the correct one or not. If the chip isn't synchronised, the car will not start and the engine will stop. If this happens, you'll need to visit an Peugeot dealer and request an alternate key for your car.
You'll need to speak with an auto locksmith professional who has the right tools, technology and machinery to make a new Peugeot key. An experienced locksmith will also have a mobile unit that can be used to cut and program a Peugeot car key for you, saving you the cost of having the car key replaced at an auto dealership.

Fob
Most modern Peugeots are equipped with a key fob which will both unlock and open the car automatically. The key fob also houses an electronic key blade that can be used in an emergency if the electronic component fails. The mechanical key is stored inside the key fob in a slot that is accessible by pulling or pressing a button. The fob will then send an ID code to the vehicle whenever a key is inserted into the ignition barrel. If the code is matched it, the engine will get started.
Some key fobs include an emergency button that can be pressed during an emergency. This feature is extremely helpful should you be in an area that is remote and you believe you're likely to be assaulted or robbed. This feature allows you to contact the police and warn your neighbors about the incident. This could discourage criminals from targeting your vehicle.
A dealer will be capable of creating and programming new Peugeot keys for you, but they'll do this at the roadside or in your office car park or while you're sitting at home in the evening. Dealerships will only be able to provide services if you have time to take your Peugeot in for repairs, and they will require you to wait while they work on it. Many people prefer to hire a professional automotive lockout service instead.
