3 Wheel Buggies

Three-wheel buggies are stylish and sleek, with outstanding maneuverability. A lot of them come with seats made of fabric that have a cosy lying flat bed and excellent weight distribution, ideal for babies from birth.

The wheels are larger and typically have suspension to ensure smooth, fluid mobility on various terrains. The only drawback is that they could be more heavy and bulkier to store and transport.

Stability

They'll also have the option of locking the front wheel to provide stability on rough ground.

It has 4 wheels and has an exclusive black pewter frame, which the company claims is 'slim and compact' - it's just 2cm larger than the Babyzen Yoyo.

Folding

There are many 3 wheel buggies that can be folded in a compact way to can be tucked away in smaller spaces. Many of these buggies can be folded in one hand and are easy-to-clean. The smallest models will come with a simple adjustable height of the handlebars, while others could have an adjustable suspension as well as an extendable 50+ UV canopy. They could also come with an enormous, spacious basket and a brake lever with quick release.

The most efficient 3 wheeler for rough terrain

A 3-wheeler is likely to be more adept at dealing with off-road conditions than a 4-wheel model, although both models can get stuck in difficult places. A model with bigger front and rear wheels will help. This will make them easier to push over uneven ground and will often help with moving up and down steep kerbs.

It's little bigger than the lightweight 4wheelers (with a surprisingly slim 54cm wide frame) but it comes with big air-filled tyres. It also has 3 recline positions, and a swift one-hand fold.

Its most appealing feature is its modularity. It's compatible with all of the brands' infant strollers and car seats. This means you can create your ideal travel system for day-to-day or longer walks using the chassis as a starting point.

Tyres

The tyres for 3 wheel buggies come in many styles and materials. Each one has its own pros and cons. Air-filled tyres, for example provide an effortless ride and superior manoeuvrability while foam-filled tires are more durable. The type of tyre you select will depend on your lifestyle and the place it is that you live.

If you plan to travel on roads that are not paved or rough terrain often you may be interested in a three-wheeler with more durable tyres. You should also consider the type of suspension that you require. A strong suspension is ideal for handling bumps and humps. However, it can be heavy and add to the overall weight of your pushchair.

Another aspect to be considered is tyre size. Understanding how to read the tyre size is important for safety, performance and longevity. The combination of letters and numbers on a tyre's sidewall can seem confusing at first, but decoding it will allow you to comprehend the dimensions of the tyre. For instance, a tyre size of '185/70 R14 indicates that the tire is a 185/70 radius with a 14 inch rim diameter.

In addition to being more durable, PU tires are also lighter and more puncture resistant than rubber ones. If you're unsure whether a pushchair has rubber or PU tires, you can test sliding the tires over an even and secure surface. If the tires move easily they are made of PU. If not, then they are made of rubber.

Suspension

The suspension on a 3 wheel buggy is an important element to look for as it will absorb the jolts and bumps of rough terrain, making it much more comfortable for your child. Large wheels that are air-filled and can be locked to provide stability while jogging are important. This will allow your buggy to navigate off-road surfaces with ease.

There are a variety of buggy designs to fit every budget and style of life. The Mountain Buggy, for example was the first to introduce all-terrain agility in three-wheel buggie. With perfect geometry and engineering, their fabrics sling seat rests comfortably within the frame, as opposed to sitting on top like modular seats, resulting in the lowest centre of gravity and sitting at the ideal height for the best weight distribution to easily tackle the kerb pops.

The Urban Glide 2 by Thule is another great option. It sports sleek design, a large wheel that's easy to maneuver and combines it with exemplary suspension. It also has an adjustable handbrake that can be turned to make it easier of use. MFM reviewer Kath really put this buggy to the test by taking it on a walk through rough ground and found that it was able to handle the terrain well, stating that it 'flies easily over grass, bumpy cobbles, pavements, dirt tracks and even makes a light work of climbing and descending the kerbs'.

The Roma Atlas, like the Urban Glide 2 is a popular off-road option. It is available in a range of colors that will match your style. It also has an adjustable handlebar, a spacious basket, and an ultraviolet hood that is 50+. You can also choose from a variety of infant car seats that will convert the buggy to a pram. Safety

The presence of four wheels makes the pushchair much more stable and less likely to tip, and easier to handle. It is also safer for your child because the weight of their body is evenly distributed across the frame.


A four-wheeled buggy has a lower center of gravity, making it easier to pop over curbs and get up. The fabric sling seats are positioned inside the frame rather than on top of it like modular seats. This creates a low seat position and buggy that is easily maneuvered.

However, if you want to go for an exercise with your child then a 4-wheeler might be more suitable as it has suspension that allows the front wheel to move independently of the rear one which allows you to navigate bumpy roads and rough terrain - just bear in mind not all 4 wheel buggies are suitable for running (most aren't, such as the Phil and Teds). The exception is Mountain Buggies which have a specially-designed suspension system that has been tested by an independent party across all terrains.
