20 Trailblazers Are Leading The Way In 3 Wheeler Buggies
3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-road terrain and offers the most comfortable ride for infants. They are also easier to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheeler especially those equipped with slings made of fabric or modular seat units that are positioned tightly in the frame to provide the best design and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeler has great stability, which is why it's an ideal choice for off road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat unit). They often feature oversized front wheels, which cope well with bumps and kerbs as well as rough ground. Some have a lockable wheel in the front to give you additional stability while driving on uneven terrain.

It's important to remember that 3-wheel buggies have lower centers of gravity than their 4-wheeled counterparts, which could mean they could fall more easily. But, the top 3-wheel buggies have the an ideal geometry and design to make them very stable in all weather conditions. They should be able turn at a whim and be easy to steer using one hand. They also come with the ability to rotate 360o on the front wheel which makes them ideal to navigate difficult terrain.

Find models with pneumatic tyres. These are designed to be able to navigate tracks that aren't paved and should be able to handle dirt, gravel, rocks and more. Many all-terrain buggies feature a swivelling front wheel that can be locked to add stability when dealing with extremely rough ground too.

A 3-wheel pram is also an ideal option for runners and those who like to walk fast and uphill, particularly when you plan to attach a car seat or carrycot. Push Chairs And Prams is an excellent model. It features an incline-reclining seat that is flat, with 5-point harness and plenty of storage space to store all your equipment (plus the ability to extend 50+ of the sun hood). It is lightweight and compact, and is suitable for use from birth. It can be used with a car seat or a carrycot. It also handles some light jogging, but isn't designed for serious runners.

Weight

If you're looking for a buggy that will take on tricky terrain then you want one with large wheels. They are designed to tackle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks easily and still provide a smooth ride. They're also good for jogging since they have built in suspension and are easy to climb and descend kerbs. The downside is that they are quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy you can use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy has 16 rear wheels with an swivel wheel lockable to the front which makes it very maneuverable. It has air tyres, which require pumping occasionally, and it can carry a child until the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the design of the seat, and she found it easy to steer with her 3-year-old son on board.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another great option. It comes with a movable handlebar, a hood made of high-end materials that provides 50+ UV protection as well as a high quality hood. It is also easy to move up and down kerbs and fits in a small car boot. It can also be used as a pram that comes with an infant car seat for infants and toddlers.

Fabric slings are set in the frame, not on top like modular seats. This design has an lower centre of gravity and a perfect height, making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you cannot underestimate how often you'll be doing that as new parents!)

Seating

There are a myriad of options for seating in 3 wheelers. For newborns it is possible to use the carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lie flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can be seated in the world-facing or parent facing seat unit that is roomy and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to recline completely, but can be adjusted to the lowest setting. This should still allow your child to have plenty of space and headroom.

A fabric sling seat is also available, which offers the advantage of being set snugly inside the frame rather than on top like a modular seat and this delivers a much lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push, especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath was impressed with the way this type of seat dealt with these challenges.

In addition to a big shopping basket, this type of buggy typically has some quite useful features, such as an extendable 50+ UV hood, an easy-to-use brake pedal, and a few game-changing visibility lights that come up from the handlebar and can be positioned in front of the occupants to increase their safety when they are tackling difficult terrain.

Alternatively, if you are searching for a single baby buggy that will adapt to your family's needs There's a brand new sport(tm) that's a world's first that can take a single newborn from the moment of birth and adjust to take 2 or even three once your little ones have developed, all within the footprint of a single buggy.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame is much more stable and can be pushed by one hand. It's also ideal for difficult terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a four-wheeler.

A good quality ATP will have a top suspension, pneumatic tyres, and an ergonomic handle that is cushioned to ensure your convenience. It will be able to accept a carrycot or car seat, which means you can use it from the time of birth.

MFM's reviewers have found that the 3-wheeler frame can't pass through all doors in their homes or small car booties - make sure to check the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded before buying in case you're concerned about space.

Look for a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. seats as your family grows - these are the best of both worlds and future proof your money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most sought-after. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggie and then converted into twin buggies after your baby is walking.

Tyres

These tires cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. They are commonly found on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted's Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to tackle kerbs and cobbles.

They can be difficult to maintain and require having their air pressure regularly topped up. They are also more susceptible to punctures than foam tyres, so you'll need to ensure that you have a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump on hand when you are out and about with your buggy.

PU tyres can be found on more pushchairs than air-filled tyres, but they are still just as durable. You can identify PU tires by their smooth appearance and soft feel. They also slide well on even and tied surfaces.

You can usually discern the difference between PU and air-filled tyres by running your hand over each one, if it feels hard then it's a rubber tyre, and if it slides then it's a PU. You can also test whether your buggy is equipped with PU tyres sliding them across an even, smooth surface. They should roll smoothly and fit snugly into the wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable since the foam will lose its springy quality. The tyres can also be noisy, as they make lots of noise when you turn and navigate around town.
