Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)
After a number of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally revealed its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Space Key is being developed in collaboration with a non-disclosed artist, and based on cutting-edge carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a project that has been revealed by Lamborghini.

Lamborghini, the Italian supercar manufacturer, is taking a first step into non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, which is dubbed the Space Key, is a work of art created in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a physical item which connects to a unique digital artwork that is accessible via an QR code printed on the back. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.
The Space Key is made of carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part a research project in the year 2019 and sent to the International Space Station. After returning to earth, the carbon fiber was crafted into this unique artwork. The physical element includes an NFT serial code that ties to the digital artwork via QR code on the back.
NFTs, for those who are not familiar are unique identifiers that are recorded on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and linked to an digital asset such as a photograph video, song, or other record. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity, and trackability of their tokens over the internet.
Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art a step further by working with NFT PRO, white label NFT solution for business. Over the next few weeks Lamborghini will be sharing details about the exciting project, including the name of the unknown artist and a timeline for the auction.
The physical element of Space Key
After a series of social media posts that tease some kind of space-themed item, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of tokens that aren't fungible (NFT) with an exclusive project called Space Key. The NFT was created in collaboration with a mysterious artist and will be auctioned in just a few weeks. The core of the NFT is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of an investigation project. Carbon fiber was 3D-printed for the base of every Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive, digital artwork by way of a QR code. Just five Space Keys have been produced.
NFTs are unique identifiers that are recorded on distributed ledgers such the Blockchain and linked to digital assets such as images. It's a hot topic among those with more money than common sense. It was only a question of time before automakers decided to cash in.
Space Key consists of five units. The components were built using a physical piece of carbon fiber composite which was delivered to the ISS in 2019. Each NFT will be linked to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist by using an QR code that is located on the back of the carbon fiber component. In the coming weeks and days, more details will be revealed including the name and digital artwork of the artist, as well as how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.
The digital artwork
After several weeks of posts on social media that hint at it, luxury automobile manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. Each Space Key contains a block composed of carbon-fired composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that happens seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.
Oefner utilized a balloon with a camera, which took each of the individual shots, which were then merged into the final image. The result is a picture that is completely out of the world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic picture of a car rising away from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and time of the event hasn't been revealed yet.
The auction

The Space Key is essentially an NFT that contains carbon fiber composite material that actually traveled to the International Space Station in 2019 to conduct research. The physical sample was then shaped into five unique pieces that link to exclusive digital artworks created only by an artist who has not yet been announced through the QR code.
The auctions will run from February 1 to February 4. They will last for 75 hours and 50 mins - the time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter Lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be bid on by making an online registration. Each NFT will be offered separately and the winner will get a digital artwork by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its flight in outer space.
