The mid-cycle facelift was when the car gained more power and also some enhancements to its exterior. The pop-up headlights were replaced with fixed headlights. The Diablo also received a new bumper and rectangular side markers. A few special editions were also available for the Diablo. Both the SV-R, and GTR are racing versions of this car. Only 30 SV-R models were manufactured, and 20 GTRs were manufactured. The GTR was equipped with an upgraded 6.0 Liter version of the V12 engine and was developed to compete against the one-make Supertrophy Series, which is similar to today's Super Trofeo.

2. Material

A Lamborghini Diablo key is made from a titanium alloy. This alloy is extremely light and robust. It is used in a variety of car components including the exhaust, cylinder heads and transmission. It also helps to keep the interior of the vehicle cool. Titanium is extremely strong, so it can stand up to extreme temperatures. The key also comes with a security feature to prevent theft.

In 1994, Chrysler sold Lamborghini in Indonesia to a group. To revive the brand, the company introduced an old-fashioned version of the Diablo called the SV. The SV with its updated engine and design that were influenced by the SE30 was 10% cheaper than the rear-drive Diablo.

The SV was Diablo's final major facelift. The 1999 model year was the last time that the Diablo was the subject of significant facelifts. The headlights with pop-ups were removed and the Giotto Bizzarrini created V12 was upgraded to 529 horsepower and 446 pound feet of torque. Other changes included the removal of the traction control system, a new oil cooler and larger front and rear brakes.

Inside, the SV featured new white-faced gauges with large analogue readouts of the speed of the engine and road. It also had more comfortable front seats as well as a state-of-the-art Alpine audio system. The SV was the first Lamborghini equipped with a tire-pressure indicator. The system sent a signal to the instrument cluster if the pressure of the tire dropped below 28 PSI.


3. Design

The Lamborghini Diablo was produced from 1990 to 2001 and set the bar for the brand. It was the first Lamborghini production to achieve a top speed over 320 km/h. The most desirable examples still command high prices.

The design of the Lamborghini Diablo was influenced by the Countach and Miura however, it was made to be less angular. It also had a scissor-door technology borrowed from the Countach. Marcello Gandini was the designer but was fired when ownership changed. Instead the car was designed by Tom Gale, who had previously worked on the Chrysler Prowler and Dodge Viper.

Throughout its lifetime, the Lamborghini Diablo was updated with different modifications and upgrades. The SV models were released in 1993. The GT models came out in 1996. The VT Roadster Millennium was built in 2000. Additionally to that, the GT version of the Diablo was a race-focused model that had improved racing features like cooling vents for the brakes and an upgraded engine.

Sandro Munari, who had won the 1977 WRC Driver's Championship in a Lancia Stratos HF was heavily involved in the development of the Lamborghini Diablo. Sandro Munari used his vast knowledge of fast cars to test and refine the Diablo. Unfortunately the Diablo was developed at a time when most modern car electronics were not yet available which is why it took until 1993 to receive power steering and until 1999 before ABS was added.

4. Function

The Lamborghini Diablo has become one of the most iconic vehicles in the world. Its powerful V12 engine combined with its stunning looks, makes it a head-turner. The Diablo is also extremely fast and can reach 200mph in under 3.4 seconds.

The car first came out in 1990, and production ended in 2001. The Diablo was replaced with the Murcielago. It is a rare and collectible vehicle, with top examples fetching $300,000 or even more.
