A new trailer for the Dear Evan Hansen film — an adaptation of the Broadway musical that gained a Tony Award in 2017 — has hit the web, with Ben Platt reprising his titular role. The movie hits theaters Sept. 24.

The movie is directed by Stephen Chbosky (Perks of Being a Wallflower, Wonder), with the unique stage show’s script by Steven Levenson and music by GOT winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman). Kaitlyn Dever, Amy Adams and Julianne Moore round out the solid.

As in the play, it’s about socially anxious high school outsider Evan Hansen, who is inspired by his therapist to write down letters to himself that he would possibly never see. When a notice he sends to himself results in the hands of Connor Murphy’s grieving parents, it turns into the premise for a lie that spirals out of control.

In the movie, it’s easier to forgive a younger Evan’s escapades because of his psychological illness, however the plot doesn’t have the identical emotional depth because the play.
