In society, there are certain rules and norms that form the concept of social expectations, but often at times, certain individuals hold their own values and beliefs that do not go hand in hand with social expectations; therefore, social expectations do not align with personal values. This is evident in Gil Junger's 10 Things I Hate About You, where Bianca Stratford is taken away from her personal values due to the peer pressure inflicted on her to do dating. The use of dialogue where Kat tries to prevent Bianca from hanging out with Joey and Bianca responds to not addressing her in public emphasizes the luring effect of peer pressure and how it can brainwash individuals from their personal values and beliefs into conforming with society's expectations, therefore saying that societal expectations do not align with personal values. The use of the close-up shot, which depicts Bianca punching Joey in the face, represents the transformation of Bianca as a peer-pressured individual dating Joey to a strong-willed individual who gives heed to her personal beliefs about family and cares about her loved ones, proving that societal expectations do not align with personal values. Therefore, in society, certain rules and norms that build up the concept of societal expectations often do not work with individuals personal concepts and beliefs, proves that societal expectations do not align with personal values.
