Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are free wireless notifications that help protect lives and property. employee tracking app WEAs are issued by authorized senders and are sent to all WEA-capable devices in an area.
WEA 3.0 includes enhanced geographic targeting, which means that you only receive an alert if your device is in the area targeted by the emergency alert originator. You can also opt out of receiving certain types of WEA messages, such as imminent threat alerts or AMBER alerts.
CMAS - Commercial Mobile Alert System
In the United States, the federal government and wireless companies have formed a unique public/private partnership called the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS). Authorized national, state or local government officials send alerts about public safety emergencies to the CMAS network, which authenticates the message and sends it to participating wireless carriers.
The carriers push the alerts to cell towers and mobile devices in the affected area. This allows the emergency alert to be distributed quickly and easily, and helps ensure that citizens have access to information that will help them stay safe during an emergency.
Test a WEA on your phone
You can get a WEA on your phone by downloading an app from your wireless provider or by subscribing to a service provided by one of the many Authorized Senders. You can also receive WEAs through the CodeRED Mobile Alert system.
