Although I have pretty clear priorities, taking a nap will always be number 1, I'm the type of person to need a nap before I can actually function correctly; even if that means cutting other necessary thing out of my day like homework for example, so when Water Polo came around it basically ruined my sleep schedule, friends, and I even had to quit a job, all of these tragic things happening because of The W-word.
One vivid memory of The W-word that; well, just thinking about it gets me livid was when our stupid redneck coach decided to punish the whole team just because one person was late for the third time in a row. This kid ( a junior or something) had been having a lot of “shoulder pains” which restricted his movement and abilities to play and swim- or at least that was the excuse, so after our daily 3 laps around the football field was finished, and no sign of the kid, our coach, (let's call him Coach Johnson for a generalization) made all the other players do 3 more laps, and since everyone hates running, we all went very slow, which pissed off Johnson more than anything, he ordered us to get in the pool and slave our bodies through suicides, which, like the name indicates; makes you want to kill yourself. After the suicides were finished he commanded us to swim a 1000 meter; just for perspective up and down the central pool the long way is a 50 meter, so in other words he ordered 20 laps out of us, with no rests at all. By the time practice was over, people couldn't even get out of the pool from exhaustion.
By the time our first game caught up with us, the team which was only 17 kids, was far from prepared. We lost 24 - 2 no joke. Everyone on the team was disheartened and depressed we lost; but the funny part is; they expected me to be on the same boat as them, sad about the outcome and even more saddened about the score: This honestly was the funniest thing I’ve ever heard; why should I? I don't see any reason why I should or would care about what some bothersome, stupid sport’s outcome turns out to be? my parents really did think though, that for a second I enjoyed the sport, the water, the players; I probably enjoyed the W-word a little bit more than I enjoy killing babies, which I don’t really find amusing either.
The extreme feeling of tiredness was the most intense it has ever been in my life, figuratively and literally. I say this because physically I only got less than 6 hours of sleep a night, with no naps, I was basically scrubbing everyday to school in hopes of being comfortable enough to sleep during lectures or notes, which did not contribute to the; school + the W word = bad grades problem either. Although I was catching up on 13 hours of sleep on the weekends by basically sleeping through the day, this didn’t help the; social life + the W word = no life problem, the only solution to this problem was to cut something out of my schedule, many things had been abandoned; naps, work, leisure time, but these final three were were all I had left, its like a scene straight out of a cheesy reality tv show like the bachelor, where the guy has to choose which woman to stay with, the anticipation building as the teenage girls watching ( only people who watch reality tv) hang at the edge of their seats tweeting who's their favorite, and right before the bombshell reveal, commercials come up; spoiling the drama. this was what my life felt like, and which choice did I make; let’s just say my new friends were textbooks. Having abandoned having a social life apart from the weird white nerds at the W word that talk about minecraft and pokemon, my life opened up to better sleep through naps, and since I didn't nap in class my grades got progressively better. I take this as a win, even though I felt like a complete loser, confined to either the pool, my bed or a pencil.
In the end, what I got from the experience was that even though the world might just wants you to fail, as long as hard work, determination, and sacrifice don't cross your mind you might just graze by the large truck speeding your way, because I’m not trying to advertise the basic BS of hard work, and all that stuff previously stated. I believe that whatever is coming your way (might or might not be a bus) was put there as a test, and as long as you do damage control, the impact won't be that hard, lord knows that the W- word hit me like a bus, but since I took the initiative and actually got my stuff together, it only hurt this much.
