Old Movie Review excessive
For a movie about growing older, Old does not have much to say. It's not that the film's premise isn't intriguing, or that it would not deliver some neat twists and clever visuals. But there's simply something too self-aware about the means in which it units up its personal entice, a kind of sadism that feels much less like high concept and more like lazy storytelling.

The film begins with a shot of palm trees dancing in the sun, and rapidly cuts to a household in a automotive traveling to their tropical getaway, as if the human element of the story is already an afterthought, destined to be fodder for the high-concept thrills to come. Then, after all, these thrills arrive within the form of a mysterious personal seaside that begins quickly getting older everybody who steps onto it, with predicably tragic results.

As the family and their associates and neighbors start to die off at an alarming rate, it's clear that the eerie, unstoppable pressure that has them trapped on the seashore isn't going anywhere soon, but what precisely are they up against? The movie resembles a cross between The Happening and The Sixth Sense, with a supernatural pressure that can't be confronted or defeated by the characters' wits or weaponry.

The movie's premise isn't entirely original, but Shyamalan has some intelligent ways of sprinkling clues all through the story and building suspense with a rising sense of dread. One of the film's best touches is the way it gradually accelerates the getting older process of the characters on screen, from kids to youngsters to 20-somethings to elderly adults. It's a surprisingly plausible impact, even within the context of a sci-fi thriller.

There are also a number of moments of genuine humor within the film, mostly courtesy of Rufus Sewell's delectable British smarminess as a cardiothoracic surgeon who's getting older faster than his physique. And the final reveal, whereas not quite a twist, is definitely sudden. ดูซีรี่ย์จีนพากย์ไทย 's not an excellent film, but it is enjoyable to observe world-class actors try to wiggle out of Shyamalan's writing like straitjacketed magicians in an underwater vault.

At the end of the day, though, Shyamalan has to admit that he is making a lazy movie. The movie isn't as deep or metaphysical as his best work, nevertheless it does have a catchy hook and a few elegant filmmaking gambits. And it's always fun to observe top-notch actors like Jude Law and Keanu Reeves try to outwit the director who gave us The Sixth Sense. It's not clear if Old will be the movie that breaks him out of his droop, but when it would not, he should have been cautious not to saddle himself with such a heavy load of phony heft. He's clearly at a career midpoint now, and it might be nice to see him discover a more focused, much less beholden approach to tell his next story..
