The concept of a movie about a Soviet-born video game about becoming pixel blocks collectively sounds like the sort of factor that Hollywood would only make after running out of concepts. But if you’re prepared to take a chance on a movie that embraces its absurdity, you could be pleasantly surprised by this odd-but-true story.
Noah Pink’s adaptation of the true story of Henk Rogers and Alexey Pajitnov, who were the real-life duo who made Tetris the worldwide phenomenon it was within the 1980s, is a surprisingly satisfying comedy/thriller. Starring Taron Egerton as Henk, the film opens in 1988 with him seeing a demo of the newly launched puzzle sport at a Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. As the founding father of the video game publishing company Bullet-Proof Software, Henk is aware of he’s just witnessed something revolutionary. He immediately begins negotiating for the game’s publishing rights, and he soon learns that Sega, the British video-game distributor Mirrorsoft, and even Nintendo wish to make a deal.
In his quest to secure the rights to sell the game on international gaming consoles, Henk bets his whole company on Tetris and must journey to the Soviet Union to persuade its inventor, the reclusive and sensible Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Yefremov), that he’s a capitalist value trusting. But ซีรี่ย์จีน ซับไทย isn’t precisely open to this, and Henk finds himself caught up in a Cold War-era battle of company and political intrigue involving shady Russian oligarchs, KGB agents, and bureaucrats who view the international success of Tetris as a threat to communism.
While the script by Pink and Matthew Horton isn’t as sharp or as clever because it might be, the movie does a strong job of telling its story. And even if you don’t have much curiosity within the nuances of contractual regulation or how a sport with a single block can change the course of historical past, you’ll find yourself charmed by Henk and Pajitnov and their unlikely friendship.
Despite the fact that Tetris is now greater than 30 years outdated, it nonetheless holds a particular place in many people’s hearts. But if you’re not a fan of the wildly addictive block-stacking puzzle game, this film won’t win you over.
Considering the plethora of sequels, remakes, and reboots that have clogged up theaters in latest times, it’s refreshing to see a film with an unique idea. And while it’s not as creative because the Rubik’s Cube or Tic-Tac-Toe, Tetris is a great, foolish and in the end rewarding film. Tetris is now taking half in in theaters and streaming on Apple TV+..
