Arithmancy adalah proses ramalan melalui angka yang lebih sering menggunakan otak untuk berpikir daripada sihir.
Para penyihir zaman dahulu menamai ilmu hitung dengan kata dari Bahasa Perancis 'de neuf' yg artinya 'berhitung'. Namun muncul nama Arithmancy yg berasal dari kata Yunani 'arithmos' artinya nomor, dan 'manteia' artinya ramalan.
Didunia muggle ada ilmu hitung yg mirip dengan Arithmancy tetapi tidak memakai ramalan, yaitu Matematika. Arithmancy pertama kali digunakan oleh penyihir-penyihir Yunani kuno untuk meramalkan hasil pertempuran suatu kerajaan.
Arithmancy berhubungan dengan hitung. Hitung berhubungan dengan angka. Arithmancy juga berhubungan dengan sihir. Karena itu, Arithmancy juga mempelajari sifat magis tiap angka.
Terdapat 2 metode dalam Arithmancy yaitu :
1. Metode Agrippa
2. Metode Chaldea
Metode Agrippa lebih sering digunakan daripada metode Chaldea dikarenakan Metode Chaldea lebih rumit ketimbang Metode Agrippa.
