Types of Car Keys

If you've discovered yourself without your car keys take a deep breath and try to remain calm. Check your immediate surroundings to find your keys. Retrace your steps to determine where they went missing.

If you can't locate your keys, we will duplicate one for you. This will provide you with keys that will open your door and allow you to start your car on your own.

Keyless Entry

The majority of newer cars and some older models offer keyless entry, a feature that lets you unlock your vehicle without having to touch the door handle or insert the key. Some of the most sophisticated systems have remote keyless access (RKI) that allows you to start your car and activate 10 electronic accessories.

These systems make use of radio waves that are emitted by your vehicle, and then picked up by the receiver in the key fob. The key fob transmits signals when you press the handle's button or put your hand on it. This signal is then matched by the receiver of the vehicle.

Some of the most modern keyless entry systems for cars are equipped with smart technology. This allows you to manage these systems using a mobile application or a cloud management system. This makes them easier to manage if you have guests or maintenance personnel who require access to vehicles or buildings on your property.

While these systems are practical, they do have their drawbacks. G28 are related to security. If your key is lost within the car, while you are inside it will not be able to send its signal and you won't be able unlock or start the vehicle. Although many manufacturers have systems that can warn you when the key is about to go out of service however, they're not foolproof.

Transponder Keys

One of the most well-known types of car keys are transponder key (also called chip keys) that function with an embedded microchip inside the plastic head of your car key. The microchip transmits a low-level signal to the receiver inside your car that only matches the serial number encoded into it by the manufacturer. This is done to avoid unauthorized copying of your key which means you will be able to only start your vehicle.

These keys are harder to copy and are less likely to be stolen. These keys are more expensive than flat ones made of metal, but they can save you a lot of money if you find an locksmith who is able to program them to your vehicle.

While they provide an abundance of security but they are very easy for children to play with and can cause harm. They shouldn't be left out unless they are kept in an area that is secure and cannot be accessed by small hands. Tossing them into water can be hazardous. Some of them also require batteries, making them a risk to have around in the house.

A licensed locksmith will usually duplicate keys and reprogram them for you. They can do this for less than the price that you would pay at a dealership and they're more convenient.

Keys Folding Keys

Certain vehicles can use keys that fold. They are essentially a traditional key, but with the metal folding into the body of plastic to make it more compact and easy to keep in your purse or on your key chain. They are becoming increasingly popular, especially since they are less likely to be damaged by water or heat. They are also harder to duplicate which makes them more secure over other types of keys for cars.

They're not exactly the most practical to use, but they can help in a pinch should you lose your car key. They are also less expensive to replace as compared to transponder keys, which makes them an ideal choice for those who want to cut costs on the security features of their vehicle.

Silca-Proximity Remote Car Keys can be made for various models. They are programmed with the PCB, transponder, and emergency or flip blade included. They can be programmed using advanced diagnostics tools and are packed individually in a plastic clamshell to allow easy identification and hook display.

These are a great substitute for a broken button or worn out key case on remote controls. However, they do NOT contain the internal electronics (include immobilizer/transponder chip)unit inside so please be sure you are buying a complete car key before purchasing!

Mechanical Keys

Modern cars no longer use mechanical keys. Instead, they utilize an RFID chip that is embedded into the key to identify it and communicate with the system of the car to start and function. A mechanical key will unlock the doors and fuel cap, but if it has not been programmed to communicate with the car, it won't start.

The system employs LF (low-frequency of 125 milliseconds) which transmits antennas both inside and outside of the vehicle. These antennas communicate with the smart keys. The key will send its identification number to the car if close enough to trigger an antenna. The PASE module verifies the key, turns off the immobilizer, and allows the vehicle to start.

If the battery of the smart key runs out or fails it has a mechanical backup available. A lot of manufacturers conceal the emergency mechanical blade behind a cover to make it look more attractive. The majority of vehicles equipped that have smart-key systems include an emergency starting system that involves placing dead keys into a slot, or holding it close to an area that is on the dashboard. This will charge it by inductive charging.
