It's a great match for savory foods to balance the sweet-salty. quality coffee beans 's a great snack to wake you up.
Ethiopia is often thought to be the birthplace of coffee. The story goes that a goat herder named Kaldi noticed that his flock was more energetic after eating the red berries on a tree near his home. He tried the berries and found that they gave him a lot of energy. The herder then shared the berry with his family, and that's the beginning of coffee's popularity.
In the Yirgacheffe region of Sidamo, Ethiopia, coffee is usually "washed" or wet processed. This helps to remove bitter tastes and produce the fresh, bright taste. In the mid-2000s coffee prices rose to levels that were unsustainable for many farmers around the world, including in Ethiopia. However, the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) was successful in helping the farmers to remain in business by implementing their fair trade initiatives as well as the ability to bargain with the market. This helped usher in the era of fruit-flavored single origin Ethiopian coffees dubbed the "new naturals." Today the world is once again enjoying the unique fresh, floral, and citrusy flavor of the Yirgacheffe bean.
Geisha
Geisha is one of the most expensive coffee beans in the world. It has a delicate tea-like taste, with hints mango, peach and raspberry. It also has a soft mouthfeel that is similar to black tea. But is it worth the price cost?
The Geisha variety was first discovered in the highland region of Gesha (it was misspelled in the process) in Western Ethiopia in the 1930s by an British consul. The seeds were then brought to CATIE, Costa Rica, before being brought to Panama by Francisco Serracin (also known as Don Pachi). When the Peterson family began experimenting with it at their Hacienda Esmeralda farm, they discovered that it was producing extraordinary flavors that were balanced and refined.
Geisha is more than an excellent coffee. It has a significant impact on the communities that grow it. It allows farmers to invest profits into improving their farming practices and quality processes. This ultimately leads to better quality for all the coffee varieties they cultivate.
However, many regular coffee drinkers are reluctant to give it a shot due to the price tag. This is a shame, since Geisha coffee truly is worth it. The Sakura season is the ideal time to drink it so do yourself a favor and buy some now!
Ethiopian Harrar
Often considered one of the best coffee beans in the world The Ethiopian Harrar is full-bodied and exotic. This coffee is a dry-processed (natural) arabica, which comes from southern Ethiopia's Oromia region. It is characterized by its acidity and the wine-like fruitiness, and a pronounced mocha flavor.
The coffee is picked and dried in the spring. The coffee is then fermented, and released its aromas and tastes. This coffee is free of chemicals and is low in calories, unlike most commercial coffees. It also has a range of health benefits, including decreasing the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. It is a good source of antioxidants, and is a good source of other nutrients. It is best to drink it on empty stomachs in order to reap the most benefits.
Ethiopian Harrar, one of the world's most prized coffees, comes from the region's easternmost part of Ethiopia. It is grown at the highest altitudes in the region, close to the walled city of Harrar. It is a unique blend that can be enjoyed in the form of espresso or Latte.
The coffee is sorted by hand and harvested, then dried by sun in traditional cloth bags. This method preserves the aroma of the beans and makes them more tasty. This is a more sustainable way of making coffee. It can be made with any brewing method, but it is most suitable for the use of a French press or pour over.
Monsooned Malabar
Monsooned Malabar is one of the world's most well-known and distinctive coffees, is a rich and chocolatey coffee with the flavor of nutty wood and almost no acidity. Its name comes from a process known as "monsooning," as well as the region it comes from - the wettest region of India in the mountainous region of Malabar which includes Karnataka and Kerala, with protected geographical indication status.
The legend behind this coffee is a bit apocryphal, but during the period of the British Raj, when large wooden vessels carried coffee to Europe The cargo was often delayed due to monsoon conditions, and while it was at sea, humidity and the wind on board caused the coffee to develop naturally, and eventually turn to a light off-white hue. After arriving in Europe they were discovered to have a distinctive and very desirable flavor characteristic.
This unique and specialized coffee processing technique, also referred to as monsooning, is still being practiced to today in Keezhanthoor, a hamlet of high-end quality cocooned in the Western Ghats and surrounded by small-scale tribal farmers who are committed to the highest quality beans. They produce a full-bodied smooth, aromatic coffee with notes of baker's cocoa, syrupy sweetness and a hint of vanilla.
This coffee is great alone or blended with fruitier varieties, and it can also stand up to milk well making it a perfect espresso or cafe cream coffee. Pour-overs, such in a Bialetti Moka Pot, are also popular. Due to its lower acidity Monsooned Malabar is able to stand up to temperatures as well.
