Five Brooklyn Coffee Bean Shops

If you're a coffee enthusiast, you should visit a coffee shop. top 10 coffee beans offer a broad selection of whole beans from all across the globe. These stores also offer unique trinkets, kitchenware and other products.

Some of these shops offer subscriptions to their coffee beans. Others offer coffee beans in bulk at their retail stores.

Porto Rico Importing Co.

Veteran coffee seller who is a specialist in international brews, loose teas, and a variety.

As you enter this old-school West Village shop, the smell of fresh roasting beans fills your nostrils. The shelves are filled with jars, sacks and dark brown beans, with coffee-making equipment, tea accessories and sugar.

Porto Rico, originally opened in 1907 by Italian immigrant Patsy Albonese. At the time, Greenwich Village was seeing an increase in Italian immigrants who had opened businesses to cater to their culinary requirements. Albanese named the shop after the popular Puerto Rican Coffee she imported and sold - a drink that was so popular in the moment that the Pope would drink it.

Porto Rico offers 130 different kinds of beans, including beans from all over the world at three locations, including Bleecker Street, Essex Market and online. The company roasts its own beans and provides wholesale distribution for 350 restaurants in NYC, Brooklyn and Brooklyn.

Peter Longo, the current president and owner of the company was raised on the top floor of the bakery of his family located on Bleecker Street where his father operated Porto Rico. He runs the business in the same way like his father and grandfather.

Sey Coffee

Sey Coffee, a coffee shop and roaster is located on Grattan Street, in Morgantown. This neighborhood in Brooklyn's Bushwick district, is located on Grattan Street. Co-founders Tobin Polk and Lance Schnorenberg, both 33 began roasting in a fourth-floor loft around the corner from their new store in 2011 under the name Lofted Coffee (with local clients including Greenpoint's Budin and Soho cart service Peddler).

Sey's commitment to buying micro-lots or whole harvests, from single farmers has earned him the respect of New York City coffee enthusiasts. Last year they made a 6-bag micro-lot purchase of Danilo Dones Sitio Catucai 785 from Brazil's Espirito Santo region. The beans were harvested at their peak of ripeness and then steamed to eliminate any imperfections. They were then dried on the farm after a 36-hour dry fermentation. The result is a coffee that is fragrant with hints of fruit and melon.

Sey's dedication extends beyond its shop to improve the overall health of employees and growers and customers. It makes use of biodegradable plastics and composts to keep waste out of landfills and converting it to agents that reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and feed the soil. It also eliminates gratuity. This allows baristas to focus on their craft and earn a living.

La Cabra

La Cabra is a modern specialty coffee brand that was established in Aarhus, Denmark in 2012. They started with a small store and a dedicated team. Their honest and innovative approach to providing an outstanding coffee experience has earned them a loyal following not just in their local area but all over the world.

La Carba follows a strict procedure to find their perfect beans. They search through hundreds of beans each year in order to find the ones that best meet their ideals. They then roast them very lightly, dialing in their desired flavor profile. This gives the coffees a greater clarity and a more vibrant taste.

The East Village store, which opened in the month of October last year and has been praised by critics for its excellent pour overs, as well as the baked goods, which are overseen by Jared Sexton. He previously worked at Bien Cuit, Dominique Ansel as well as other coffee houses.

The shop uses the La Marzocco modbar, and the cups and plates are made by Wurtz ceramics in Horsens, a father and son studio. In a recent interview, Atlanta Coffee Shops General Manager Ian Walla revealed that La Cabra serves 250 different types of coffee per day and usually has seven or eight coffees available at any time.

The Roasting Plant Coffee

The Roasting Plant is a multi-unit coffee retailer, roasts and brews coffee on-site. Each cup is brewed and roasted according to your specifications in less than an hour. It is a search engine for the finest specialty beans that are sourced directly, giving customers choice and quality.

Their onsite roaster is a fluid bed machine, which is different from traditional drum machines commonly found in UK coffee shops. The beans are blown in a heated container with high-speed, circulating air. This keeps the beans suspended and allows for a consistent roasting rate.

I tried the Sumatran coffee and it was very rich with a velvety mouthfeel, dark chocolate scent was present and the coffee started to cool as you sipped and subtle aromas of citrus fruit were detected.

The roasted coffee will be poured into the Eversys Super-Automatic Brewing Machines and brewed according your preferences in less than one minute. Customers can select from nine single origin selections and a wide range of blends.

Parlor Coffee

Parlor Coffee was founded in 2012 behind a barbershop, equipped with a single group espresso machine. It has since evolved into a flourishing coffee roastery, and its beans can be found in a variety of great cafes, restaurants, and home brewers all over the city. Parlor Coffee is committed to procuring the finest quality beans, which have all been through a long journey before arriving at its roasters.

The owners, who self-described as "passionate about their craft and believe that a good cup of coffee should accessible to everyone," have created a place that is a bit more grounded and filled with chalkboards. There are compost bins, up-cycled handmade products, and low-frills decor.

They roast and create their own blends and single-origins (there were six while I was there) However, they also hold cuppings on Sundays, and are open to the public. Imagine it as a tasting room, where you can smell and taste the ground beans. They range from earthy to chocolatey (one was almost like tomato!). It's a bit off the beaten path, but it's worth the drive.
