Types of UPVC Door Handles
When your upvc door handle needs replacing it's essential to find the right replacement for your home. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles with extra security features.
The most important measurements to consider are the measurement A (also known as PZ) and the length of the backplate. Make sure to check these measurements to ensure the new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply a force to the end of the lever, it tends to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the force. This motion increases the force and lets you lift or move things that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases as the lever is extended. You can determine the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point where you're applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and the end of the lever.
Levers can also have different effects based on the way in which forces are applied. A lever in class 2, for example is prone to rotating in the opposite direction once the force of the effort is applied. If you push the door handle the force will create similar rotational effects to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply multiply the force you apply by converting a small amount of effort over a large distance into a larger amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. door handles repairmywindowsanddoors are used to lift heavy objects and move huge amounts of cargo. This is also the basis behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools such as crowbars, fishing rods hammer claws and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a kind of upvc door handle that have levers on both sides to operate the multipoint lock. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes, and can be used with a variety of materials like UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and exterior door, with spindles and screws included. They are available both unhanded and handed versions to suit different users.
They are typically used for new builds and can be fitted to replace doors made of upvc. They are usually operated by lifting up the levers to throw all of the multipoint locks, and turning the key to close and unlock. They offer some extra security compared to lever handles for doors as the locking operation is only accessible by entering the door with keys unless the door is locked.
They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt but are an affordable alternative to add security. The only disadvantage is that they don't provide the same level of security as a cylinder lock, and so don't prevent external access to the home if the door is left open.
The majority of lever pad door handles made of upvc that we have in stock are manufactured by the top manufacturers in the industry and are made from high quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
These are usually designed to work with the 92mm lock or a replacement version called a Paddock Lock. They will feature a cylinder with 82mm diameter on the inside and 62mm outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some are supplied with the backplate, and others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the simplest type of door handles. By pressing down on the lever, it triggers a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door shut, and can be locked with keys. Some lever privacy handles operate based on this same principle however, with the addition of the snib (like knobs for doors).
A snib can be a extremely useful tool, particularly in homes where security and privacy are important. If your spouse is expected to arrive home late from work, you can utilize the snib so that they won't be able to enter until they're ready in. This kind handle can also be put in on interior doors such as those in bedrooms, where you wish to limit access from outside.
Snib buttons may cause problems in certain situations, particularly when you have old locks and doors that are warped. If the snib switch is accidentally pressed by a person who isn't familiar with it, the door could slam and lock you out. It is possible to gain entry by knocking the door frame or the letterbox. But, this is not ideal.
If your uPVC door has a snib lock, we recommend replacing the handle with a contemporary E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These locks can be retrofitted on pull handle kits that double turn and come with cover plates that hide existing holes for a seamless install. The E-LOK uses a smart app that allows you to unlock the door using mechanical keys or RFID cards, and can be set up with passcodes to ensure security and convenience. The system has been tested for 200,000 times to ensure its durability. The handles themselves are constructed with a solid metal construction and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a popular handle style for front doors. It comes with the advantage of preventing the door from being opened from the outside without keys if the lock is not deadlocked. This is achieved by using an external handle that is shaped like a pad that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks which use a split spindle mechanism. This type of operation requires that the lever handle and external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This could be a straightforward replacement of the current uPVC handle, but it could also require a new lock case or a new set of handles to handle furniture.
These aluminum levers and movable pads door handles are suitable for use on uPVC and feature an unmaintained slide bearing. They also come with fixing lugs, spring cassettes and a non-stick slide bearing. These handles have an euro-profile cut out and can be installed on various uPVC or doors made of timber.
Lever-movable pads are available in various finishes and fit many different multipoint locks. They are designed for use with split spindle locks with the 92mm cylinder as their centre and require a special set of split spindles supplied by the manufacturer of the lock.
These Hoppe London lever moveable pad handle 77G/3831N/113 is made of cast aluminum with an anodized finish that is scratch-resistant and resistant to corrosion. They can be used in conjunction with various other Hoppe products including handles for french door handles, and window handles. They are also fitted with an escutcheon for security.
Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever handles are among the most commonly used types of upvc doors handles. They come in many styles. It is comprised of two inline handles that can be moved and is lockable with either a key or a thumbturn cylinder inside. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever or lever handle and consists of a fixed or movable pad that can be used to operate the lock. These Fullex handles have a spring-loaded lever pads with snibs that can be triggered to hold the latch back.
When choosing the right replacement Upvc handle, it is important to consider the screw centres and the back plate length, and the PZ measurement.
