10 Key Factors About Upvc Door Handles You Didn't Learn At School
Types of UPVC Door Handles

It's important to choose the right replacement upvc handle for your home if your handles are in need of replacement. A locksmith can supply and install high-security uPVC handles with added security features.

The most important measurements to consider are the measurement A (also called PZ) and the length of the backplate. Check these measurements to make sure your new uPVC handles will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a rigid bar pivoted around a point (known as a fulcrum). When you apply force to the end of the lever, it is likely to cause it to turn the fulcrum in the direction of the applied force. This rotation multiplies the force applied which allows you to lift or move something that would require more force if you attempted to apply directly to the load.

The distance between the fulcrum to the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever is able to move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended the greater the mechanical advantage. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the point you are applying force by the distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.

Levers can have different effects depending on the way the force is applied. For instance a lever of class 2 is inclined to turn in the opposite direction to when the force applied to it (like a T-totter). If you push the handle of a door the force will create rotational effects similar to this.

However, levers don't create energy. They simply multiply the force you apply by converting a small amount of effort over a large distance into a greater amount of force applied over a smaller distance. This is what enables you to accomplish more in less time, which is why levers are often used to lift heavy objects or moving large quantities of cargo. This is also the principle behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools, such as crowbars, fishing rods claws for hammers, and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. These come in many variations and finishes, and can be used with a variety of materials, including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for both the outside and the interior doors, with spindles and screws included. They are also available in both handed and unhandled versions to suit different users.

They are commonly used in new constructions and are fitted to replace doors made of upvc. The levers are raised to open the multipoint locks and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They offer a little more security than standard lever door handles since locking is only done by the inside using keys.

They are not as safe as a cylinder lock, but they're an affordable way to increase the security of your home. The only drawback is that they don't offer the same level of protection like a cylinder bolt and therefore won't prevent access from outside in the event that the door has been left open.

We stock a large number of lever pad upvc handles produced by the top manufacturers in the field. They are made with high quality components. In general, they come with a manufacturer's guarantee.

Typically, these will be designed to work with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version of this called a Paddock lock. They will have an 82mm cylinder center on the inside, and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some are inserted into the back plate whilst others are removable to allow for different fixing centres.

Lever/Snib

Lever latches, the simplest of door handles are used. The lever is pushed downwards to activate a simple latch inside the door. It can be locked with keys. Some lever privacy handles work on the same principle but with an additional snib, which is similar to a doorknob.

A snib button can be very beneficial, especially in homes where it's essential to ensure privacy or security. You can use the snib button to block your guest from entering until they are prepared. This kind handle is also used in interior doors like bedrooms, where you may require a lock to prevent access from the outside.

In some cases there are instances where snib buttons could cause problems, particularly in the case of doors and locks that are distorted. If the snib is applied in a mistake or by someone who isn't accustomed to it, the door may slam shut and shut you out. In most cases, you can get in by knocking on the door frame or letterbox, however this isn't a good idea.

If your uPVC has an snib, we suggest replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These smart locks can be retrofitted onto double turn pull handle kits. They come with coverplates to hide existing holes to ensure a seamless installation. The E-LOK uses a smart app that allows you to unlock the door using RFID cards or mechanical keys, and can be set up with passcodes to ensure security and convenience. The system has been tested to 200,000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles themselves are made with a solid metal construction and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This is a well-known handle style for front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door from being opened from outside without a key if the lock is not deadlocked. This is accomplished by a 'pad' shaped external handle that locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to stop the latch from being pulled back or the door opened.

This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks which use split spindle mechanisms. This type of operation requires that the lever handle and external pad handle be attached to the same lock case. This can be a simple replacement for the current uPVC handle, however it may also require a change in the lock case or a new set to handle furniture.

These levers/movable pad door handles are ideal for uPVC doors and come with a slide bearing that is maintenance-free as well as fixing lugs and spring cassettes supplied. They feature a euro-style cut out and can be fitted to a wide range of uPVC and timber doors.

Lever moveable pads are available in various finishes and can be used with a variety of multipoint locks. They are designed for use with split spindle locks that have a centre cylinder of 92mm and require a specific set of split spindles provided by the manufacturer of the lock.

Lever/Moveable Snib

The lever handle is among the most popular types of upvc door handles and is available in a variety of designs. It is comprised of two handles that can be moved and locked by a thumbturn cylinder, or keys. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever/lever handle and consists of a fixed or movable pad that can be used to control the lock. These Fullex handles are sprung lever pad with a snib that can be triggered to stop the latch from closing.
