3- do i air dry or blow dry
1- why is it better to use a shirt instead of a towel
-less friction. the smooth surface of the shirt helps reduce friction, unlike the towel which has little fluffs. a smoother surface reduces friction and it minimizes the risk or frizz and hair damage
-more gentle for hair. since towels are usually pretty rough, it can be harsh on the hair.
-prevents frizz. smoother fabric reduces the risk of frizz because it prevents the hair cuticle from being roughened while drying it.
-better for curls. using a shirt for drying ur hair (which is often referred to as plopping) can help maintain the curl pattern of curly or wavy hair.
-towels can sometime leave behind lint in ur hair, so you can use a shirt to avoid that. Also if you dont have extra shirts to use, you can buy a microfiber towel. I've seen some on tj max and they're really helpful.
-many shirts are made out of micro fiber or other soft fabrics can absorb more water than towels. which having your hair wet for too long can lead to the hair being weakened, so it makes it more likely to break in the future.
this leads me to the next question. is it better to blow dry or air dry, and which one do.
I typically let it air dry, but sometimes I use a blow dryer, but only dry it halfway cus of laziness. They both have pros and cons.
air dying:
1- having ur hair wet for too long
2-frizz. air drying can sometimes lead to frizz, but this is mostly for long hair(moose)
3-flatness. ur hair wont have as much volume as it would if you blow dry it.
blow drying:
1-Heat damage. Can lead to split ends, brittleness, and dryness
2-Dries out scalp. Leads to dandruff or irritation in the scalp.
3- Its time consuming. (doesn't matter that much unless ur in a rush)
which do i recommend.
since u have shorter hair, you don't have to worry about ur hair staying wet for too long. just dont put it up until it does. Also if you have the right products, air drying helps reduce frizz and can preserve natural curls or waves. (i think you have wavy hair)
