Old Movie Review excessive
For a movie about growing older, Old does not have much to say. It's not that the movie's premise isn't intriguing, or that it does not ship some neat twists and clever visuals. But there's just something too self-aware about the way it units up its personal trap, a sort of sadism that feels much less like excessive idea and more like lazy storytelling.

The film starts with a shot of palm bushes dancing within the solar, and quickly cuts to a family in a car traveling to their tropical getaway, as if the human component of the story is already an afterthought, destined to be fodder for the high-concept thrills to come back. Then, in fact, these thrills arrive within the form of a mysterious private beach that begins quickly growing older everyone who steps onto it, with predicably tragic results.

As the household and their associates and neighbors begin to die off at an alarming fee, it is clear that the eerie, unstoppable force that has them trapped on the seaside isn't going anyplace quickly, but what exactly are they up against? ดูหนังออนไลน์ 4k resembles a cross between The Happening and The Sixth Sense, with a supernatural force that may't be confronted or defeated by the characters' wits or weaponry.

The movie's premise isn't completely original, however Shyamalan has some clever ways of sprinkling clues all through the story and constructing suspense with a growing sense of dread. One of the movie's handiest touches is the way it gradually accelerates the aging strategy of the characters on screen, from children to youngsters to 20-somethings to aged adults. It's a surprisingly believable impact, even within the context of a sci-fi thriller.


There are also a number of moments of real humor within the movie, mostly courtesy of Rufus Sewell's delectable British smarminess as a cardiothoracic surgeon who's getting older faster than his physique. And the final reveal, while not fairly a twist, is definitely sudden. It's not an excellent movie, but it's enjoyable to look at world-class actors attempt to wiggle out of Shyamalan's writing like straitjacketed magicians in an underwater vault.

At the top of the day, although, Shyamalan has to admit that he's making a lazy film. The movie isn't as deep or metaphysical as his best work, nevertheless it does have a catchy hook and a few elegant filmmaking gambits. And it is always fun to look at top-notch actors like Jude Law and Keanu Reeves try and outwit the director who gave us The Sixth Sense. It's not clear if Old will be the film that breaks him out of his slump, but when it does not, he ought to have been cautious to not saddle himself with such a heavy load of phony heft. He's clearly at a profession midpoint now, and it would be good to see him find a more targeted, less beholden approach to inform his next story..
