Notes

I want to write you poetry, all for eternity. You could live a thousand lives, and I would still be here, I would still be your friend. I'd play the music you like and play the movies you live so vicariously through, if that means that you'd stay. Your presence is a gift, your presence heals a thousand unknown scars, scars you've never seen. And God have I spoken to the stars about you, about the spark you always seem to have. Within you, there's beauty, art, and poetry itself. Everything good that's left in this ugly world is in you. If I could have conversations with the moon, it would be about you. You are the sun, the moon, and the stars. I would never run from you, I couldn't, I shouldn't. I wish you could see what I see in you. Remember when we finally became friends? I can't believe it hasn't been years, because it feels like I have lived life just to get to know you. I would have stolen the thorns that stood in the way, barehanded, if I had known you were around. And maybe that's what I did, or what you did. I am here now, and I am going to be here regardless of the terror or flaws. Your beauty never really scared me, only a fool would be terrified. Say whatever you would like, be whoever you wish to be, and be wherever you want to be. I will always be proud of you and everything you do. And I promise, I will always look out for you. I will always listen to you, and If I could keep promising you the things I would do for you, I would run out of ink.
In two days, you'll be turning seventeen. 17 years in this world, 17 years of being the light of everyone's life. 17 years of being the coolest friend there could ever be, and 17 years of you living passionately and trying your hardest to follow your dreams. Seventeen. I have only known you for 3 years, yet I am proud of all 17 of yours. It's a gift from God that I could share memories with you. We're so lucky to have seen you become the person you are today, someone so caring and understanding, someone who fights for what's right, someone who notices the little things, someone who has a heart of diamonds and deserves the entirety of the universe combined.
My only wish, the only thing I would ever ask for is to continue making you laugh and smile just like you have done for me. Ever since I met you, the sun has lit upon me like it never has done in years. You shared your light with me, and I could suddenly see for the first time. I know we had our hard times, when we knew each other and when we did not, and I would do anything to make sure you're alright. If making you laugh and smile is what heals you, then I have finally found my purpose.
In the letter you wrote to me before you traveled, you hoped that I was doing better, and I have been. Throughout these years, I have had the darkest nights where I felt like I was being turned inside out, but our conversations would change those nights, turn them bright again. You hoped that I was doing better, and that's truly what's making me fight for it. That day I was terrified that I would drive you away, but what you said to me made the world feel okay again. You were there for me, even when I felt like a burdened mess. I can't thank you enough, but I can promise you that I would sit and listen to you even if the sky was falling apart. I will help you pick up the pieces and I will carry your worries. I am always one text away, and I promise that you can never be a burden to me.
In endless ways, you are art in its purest form. We humans are filled with strengths and flaws and habits and mistakes. I dread that our stories are filled with darkened clouds and shadows. I am willing to spend years learning to clear the sky and give you stories to remember, not cry over, and if it isn't me who you choose to continue within your path, then may the person who you chose, get to do the same for you and more. You have given my writing a purpose, and for that I'm forever thankful. I am filled with aching admiration, I thank God for you, and I thank you for your being.
