The Black Phone Movie Review fascinating
The Black Phone is a well-crafted horror movie that delivers on the style's resurgent popularity for heart-pounding suspense. Director Scott Derrickson returns to his sandbox with a terrifying thriller that utilizes sound and environment to full effect. Ethan Hawke delivers a fascinating efficiency as the movie's villain and continues his spectacular mid-career run.

The film evokes the creepy vibe of a late '70s suburban nightmare with its ominous setting and darkish, sinister tone. Derrickson and co-writer C. As The Black Phone progresses, the movie starts to really feel like a darker iteration of IT, with baby ghosts coming to Finney's assist from beyond the grave via a lifeless payphone in his basement. While the film would not go so far as the IT franchise, this darkly twisted tale is a welcome return to old-school horror tropes.

Despite some tonal missteps, this enjoyable adaptation of Joe Hill's quick story is a horror film with a coronary heart. Gone are the days of gut-churning gore and shrieking shock cuts; as an alternative, Derrickson focuses on building true edge-of-your-seat suspense with a genuinely creepy premise and a few enthralling performances from its young cast.
