Croc Charms and David Bowie
The Crocs brand yanked a tweet on Monday in honor of David Bowie, featuring the infamous "Lightning Bolt" shoe. The late musician died at the age of 69 after a 18-month battle with cancer. Fans called out Crocs for the Tweet, which featured a white Crocs shoe with a red lightning bolt that echoed the alter ego of the late singer. The company then deleted the tweet, but it wasn't enough to stop the social media posts and mocking.
While charms on Crocs have been around for quite some time, Christopher Kane went a step further and stuck gemstones inside the footwear. He showed them during London Fashion Week, where the shoes were fancified to look like Ziggy Stardust's alter ego. The acrobats were wearing the same pink Crocs as Kane. No matter the source, no one can argue with the acrobats and the flamboyant footwear.
David Bowie's crocs are also a tribute to the late rocker. In 1987, the legendary artist praised Crocs and even wore them during his performance at the Royal Albert Hall. The band's first hit, "The Man Who Fell to Earth," featured the iconic musician as an alien bringing water to his home planet. Later, the singer admitted to drug abuse while filming the movie, and a few years later, he was arrested.
In a post to his late friend, David Bowie, Crocs resorted to the use of gemstones in its footwear. The shoes' white straps were covered with a red lightning bolt, echoing his alter ego Ziggy Stardust. glow in the dark croc charms included a message of inspiration. The Crocs' tribute lasted less than an hour. However, the backlash against the brand was immediate.
In addition to the 'Lightning Bolt' shoe, the Crocs also included an icon of the late singer, Christopher Kane.
