psychoactive drugs and compulsive behaviors

each story of addiction has it advocates

compulsive behaviors: gambling, shopping, sexual activity, watching television
people use psychoactive drugs to change their mood or to cope what they are going to feeling through (to calm down and to slow things down)

from experimentation to addiction

some people can drink/ smoke or anything else without having any problems while others can’t

levels of use: abstention, experimentation, social use, habituation, abuse, addiction

you would do anything that your brain would want not knowing what lies ahead

sings of addition: intoxication/ acting out, continue to use despite damages to lives, can’t stop using/ behavior, always denying

people who cross the line of abuse and addiction, can no longer function normally without it


you shrink the size of the neuron and years of development of emotionally and intellectually because of drugs

two tolerance and withdrawal are the two key of addiction

withdrawal is the attempt of the brain that tries to take it away but because of it the brain gets too tired and causing too much pain

two types of craving endogenous craving and environmentally cued craving

alcohol abuse— what you see is a dramatic overall shutdown

marijuana abuse — what you see is a suppression in the temporal region and which will him significant memory loss and lost of motivation

heredity and environment also changes the brain because someone ever does anything that is addicting to them

every single thought and experience matters to your brain
if you bathe with repeated stress then it changes your brain in a negative way causing disorders


child hood abuse, molested and terrible experiences usually lead to drug abuse


heredity environment and drugs and behavior
if you pass the maximum susceptibility then you max out and you can’t do anything about it

for those who cross the line and quit the drugs will either drop or keep the addict at the flashpoint and continue the abuse

real key to stop addiction was to focus on the addiction and to ________

addiction is the battle between old and new brain

old brain — ???
new brain — reasons and tries to protect the old brain

when activated by an addiction the old brain tries to take over

ventral tegmental areas and nucleus accumbens are important parts of the brain ????

dopamine does not function proper so that’s the reason why some people just keeps on wanting more and more and more

recovery is possible when you are aware and try to avoid stress and passing knowledge to people that are around them

although you cannot change your past, you can change your present and future

addiction is a disease that cannot be seen and judge so easily because no one will understand unless they are an addiction themselves
