Murdaugh Murders Netflix Season 2 Review
The story behind the murder of lawyer Alex Murdaugh and his wife and son is the kind that would make true-crime mavens drool. It has all the trappings of a juicy drama: a century-old family law firm; a powerful and ruthless patriarch; and the murders of a young couple, bringing to light a whole slew of family scandals and corrupt dealings. And if that sounds familiar, it's because it really happened.

If you haven't delved into the murdaugh murders netflix yet, the first season explores the family's history of power and corruption in Hampton, South Carolina and their fall from grace after a fatal boating accident killed friend Mallory Beach and Alex's daughter, Maggie, resulting in a murder trial that uncovered a century of abuse and crooked dealings. The second season continues this saga, with the courtroom proceedings of Alex's murder trial and his conviction for his wife and son's deaths.

While it may not have the same punch as a drama, this series is still compelling viewing, and while it will likely only appeal to those with a deep tolerance for true crime, it's also a must-see for anyone interested in this type of case and the many ways that power and corruption can be used to destroy families and even entire towns. There are also a number of unsettling details that will leave viewers with a very uneasy feeling, and watching people haggle over a murdered family's belongings at an auction certainly doesn't instill a lot of trust in humankind.

It's important to note that, while this second season focuses on the murder trial of Alex and Maggie Murdaugh, it does cover several other suspicious deaths that surround the family. It's the investigation of these other incidents that makes murdaugh murders netflix so fascinating, and it shows how a power-hungry family can be brought to its knees by corruption and the relentless pursuit of money.

The first episode of the new season lays out what we know to be the facts of the murders and the subsequent trial, with Alex being found guilty for his role in the murders of his wife and son. The second episode takes a closer look at the evidence gathered during the investigation and how it points to Alex's guilt.

A large part of the second episode centers around an audio recording that destroys Alex's alibi for his daughter's death and his claim that he had been visiting his Alzheimer's-afflicted mother at the time of the murders. This evidence proves that Alex was not only lying, but that he had a motive to kill his wife and son.

For example, it's not made clear whether Cory Fleming was aware of Alex's crooked financial practices and if so, to what extent. A more detailed account of these tangled threads might have added some context to the story, but perhaps this is an issue that will be explored in the third and final season of the series.
