A 7meter is a length of steel bar or wire rope. It is often used in construction to measure heights and distances, and to secure rigging such as cranes. It can also be used to tie down cargo on ships or airplanes. It is used to measure a variety of distances and has multiple uses on land as well.
The Canon Model 7 came with a built in light meter. This was a selenium cell based light meter and is a bit difficult to find working these days since the selenium cells degrade over time. The upgraded Model 7s replaced this with a CdS sensor based light meter. The meter won't stop other camera functionality but it is uncoupled so it can't control the shutter speed for you (like in aperture priority mode) and it won't warn you with bright lights or sounds that you are over or under exposed.
GPS isn't the only thing that helps your car navigate around you, most cars have many radar-like sensors like 8 that help them determine the centerlline of the road and lane lines, the presence of other cars and pedestrians, traffic signals, and even the color of the street signs. GPS only provides 7 meter accuracy, but it is better than most of the other sensors that are used in self driving cars.
