Zeus 138
zeus 138
The king of the gods, Zeus is the most powerful Olympian deity and the embodiment of Greek power. He is a supremely omnipotent god who has absolute control over the sky, seas and skies and is capable of changing his appearance to seduce mortals or deceive immortals. He is the ruler of Mount Olympus, where he rules over all the other Olympian gods and mortals alike. Throughout ancient Greek history, Zeus has been a central figure in the life of the nation and its citizens and continues to be an important god today.

Despite his great powers, Zeus has a penchant for trickery and dishonesty. Many stories in ancient Greek mythology involve his deceitfulness and lust for women, men and immortals. He is also known for his insatiable vengeance against those who anger him.

In zeus138 to maintain his immense power and influence, Zeus needed a devoted following. He created a cult to himself wherein he was the only god allowed to speak to humans and in which he dictated laws and commanded sacrifices. The cult was an important aspect of the ancient Greek religion, which continued to thrive even after the fall of the Roman Empire.

Zeus is the most famous Olympian deity and continues to be a popular religious icon in modern Greece. His story is told in countless books, films and plays. He is the patron god of several cities, towns and sports teams. He is also the god of the Olympic Games, a festival celebrated once every four years by the Greeks and Romans to commemorate the victory of Zeus over the Giants.

During the reign of Emperor Hadrian (c. 121-138 CE), the Temple of Zeus Olympios was restored and completed. Hadrian had a love of Greek culture and visited the country a number of times. He dedicated the completed temple in 131 CE, spending the winter there. During this time he donated funds to various projects to restore Greek monuments, including the new Temple of Zeus Olympios and the nearby Temple of Kronos and Rhea. A precinct wall was built around the Temple of Zeus Olympios to protect it and Roman baths were added. A monumental arch, 18 m high, was erected in front of the temple to form an entrance to the new complex and this became known as Hadrian's Arch.

The bishop Theophilus of Antiocheia (c. 180 AD) branded Euhemems as the "most atheistic philosopher", and in his Apologia for Christians cited the stock argument of Euhemerus - Zeus' grave being an obvious example. However, later apologists such as Clement of Alexandria (c. 150-c. 215 AD) exonerate him from this stigma on the grounds that he had in fact 'discerned more acutely the error connected with the aUeged gods.'
