Horror movies are some of the most popular and profitable films ever produced, so it's no surprise that Netflix's library is swimming in bloody titles. As the streaming service's original filmmaking factory continues to crank out horror films at a breakneck pace, it can be tough to sort out the quality from the trash. But if you know where to look, there are some really terrifying options among the scariest movies on netflix.

Jordan Peele made a huge splash as a new talent in the horror genre with his 2017 directorial debut Get Out, which follows a Black man (Daniel Kaluya) on an ill-fated trip to meet his girlfriend's parents. While the movie certainly has its fair share of jump scares, it's also a smart and incisive look at racism in America that is as thought-provoking as it is scary.

Before helming The Haunting of Hill House, Mike Flanagan made this thriller about a woman handcuffed to her bed and forced to confront the traumas of her past. The movie is rooted in psychological terror and features a terrific performance from Carla Gugino. It's the anti-Halloween movie that doesn't resort to slashers and instead focuses on a woman's survival.

John Carpenter's 1978 classic has lost none of its power to terrify 45 years after its release. While there have been plenty of sequels and reboots, the original is still the best way to experience Michael Myers' unstoppable killing spree.

The most recent entry on this list is a Spanish horror film that's not quite as scary as it is disturbing. Based on a true story, The Wasteland tells the tale of a family terrorized by a mysterious creature in the desert in the '80s. It's an incredibly tense and atmospheric film that also offers some shocking violence and gore.

A period horror movie that's equal parts a homage to The Wicker Man and Midsommar, Gareth Evans' Apostle stars Dan Stevens as a man who travels to a remote island off the coast of Wales in search of his missing sister. ซีรี่ย์จีน has its fair share of gruesome violence, but it's elevated by an unforgettable turn from Michael Sheen as a cult leader with a penchant for bloodletting and other weird religious rituals.

Run Rabbit Run isn't quite as scary as some of the other entries on this list, but it's a very interesting and unique film that has something to say about gentrification in the city of Brooklyn. It's a quirky psychological thriller that's anchored by a strong and committed performance from Jessie Buckley as a young woman who's about to get married. Despite being far from a traditional horror movie, it's a highly recommended watch.
