His birth name was Gajanan Ranganath Shirwadkar, which he later changed to Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar
He was a poet, playwriter, novelist, and a short story writer.
Some schools he went ot were the New English School of Nashik and the Mumbai University.
He recieved the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Jnanpith Award, and the Padma Bhushan.
Some plays/books he wrote were Natsamrat, Vishakha, Rajmukut, Yayati and Devyani, and Vhij mhanali Dhartila.
He founded the Lokahitawadi Mandal, an organization for social good, which is still present in Nashik.
Kusumagraj adapted a lot of Shakespeare's plays, and looked up to him.
He also edited a weekly paper called Swadesh.
