Tanaman Water Hemlock atau Cicuta maculata adalah tanaman yang menarik dengan daun ungu bergaris-garis putih serta berbuah kecil. Tanaman ini berasal dari Amerika Utara dengan tinggi mencapai 1,8 meter serta tumbuh subur di sepanjang tepi sungai, rawa, dataran rendah dan padang rumput yang basah.
Keseluruhan tanaman ini sangatlah beracun, khususnya di bagian akar mereka. Racun ini dinamakan cicutoxin. Dapat menderita rasa sakit mengerikan seperti kram, muntah-muntah, kebingungan, sakit di daerah perut, gemetar, dan akhirnya kematian karena gagal otot jantung jika seseorang sampai mengkonsumsi tanaman ini. Satu sampai dua gigitan akar tanaman sudah dapat menyebabkan kematian. Hal ini disebabkan akar tanaman ini menyerupai lobak atau termasuk tanaman jenis umbi-umbian sehingga sering salah dikonsumsi oleh manusia.
Tanaman ini bukan hanya berbahaya bagi manusia, tetapi pada hewan juga misalnya sapi.
Water hemlock adalah tanaman tahunan yang tumbuh di daerah berair dengan tinggi hingga 2,5 meter (8,2 kaki), memiliki bunga khas hijau atau putih kecil disusun dalam bentuk payung (umbel).
Hingga saat ini belum ada obat penawar khusus untuk keracunan air hemlock dan pengobatan terutama terdiri dari perawatan suportif.
