USED TO VS. PAST SIMPLE
USED TO - TO talk about the actions you did regulalry in the past, but you don't do them anymore.
PAST SIMPLE - to talk about actions you did regularly, the actions you did once.

To talk about your habits / regular activities in the past, you can use both USED TO and PAST SIMPLE.
I used to wake up early when I was at high school. RESULT --> BUT Now, I DON'T wake up early.
I usually wake up early when I was at high school. RESULT --> Maybe, I wake up early or don't wake up early.

NOTES : If you are talking about an action/actions which happened just once, we can use only "PAST SIMPLE". (NOT "USED TO")
