8 Tips To Boost Your Private ADHD Titration Game
Private ADHD Titration

There is a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, by video link or by phone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and if you decide to begin taking medication, we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take several weeks and requires adjusting your child's dosage slowly until the right balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to have to titrate several times before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. Parents must be involved in this titration process, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour to inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing side effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS treatment, your medication will be issued with a private prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is typically conducted via zoom video call. In some cases, it may be possible for an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again with an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options we have and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a discussion and review of your dosage of medication and any side effects you may be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any medication costs.

The doctor will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be experiencing or other mental health issues you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, which is why it's crucial to look into your family's history in order to determine if you're at a greater risk of developing this disorder.

During this assessment it is vital that you are truthful and honest with your doctor who will use the information you provide to determine if you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is an important step, since a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you decide to be treated for ADHD, we'll arrange an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist who is specialized in this area. This can be scheduled in the wake of your diagnosis if are keen to begin treatment immediately or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives available to you.

We recommend that if you are unsure of your preferences, you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Certain providers have different policies on whether or not they require the submission of a GP letter. Check if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic to get a prescription medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral aspect of the treatment process for many who are seeking an official ADHD diagnosis. The process of getting an appointment with an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and long-winded. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

titration ADHD to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can select an organization that offers a private assessment and titration. This can reduce your wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you are working and have a busy schedule.

If you are diagnosed, your doctor will examine you to determine if you need medication adjustment. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any factors that might mean you shouldn't take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. They will be assessed and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration procedure can be a lengthy process and may require several extra appointments before the dose becomes stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication that you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking to see if you are taking the correct medication, noting any adverse effects you have had and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You are required to attend an annual review as well as a routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

For some individuals it could be because they are content with their medication and don't need any further discussion on their titration. For those who require further discussion about their titration and treatment plan it's possible that they will be referred back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fee, and they will be given their medication via an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than an NHS prescription since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
