The Best Latin Artists of 2022
Whether it's rock, rap, reggaeton or pop, the best latin artists have one thing in common: they're all great to listen to. Their music resonates with audiences and their live shows sell out in seconds. The biggest Latin pop stars are a force to be reckoned with, as their massive hits linger in the air and their albums stay on top of charts.

This year, the genre saw an uptick in new breakout artists. Yendry, the Dominican-Italian singer with a velvety voice, is a standout whose influences crisscross the globe and include deconstructed, forward-looking variations of R&B, dembow, reggae and more. She spent 2022 collaborating with the likes of J Balvin and Damian Marley, and her first solo album is poised to propel her to stardom.

With songs that evoke a range of emotions from heartbreak to happiness, Yendry’s profound and empowering R&B musings are a breath of fresh air. The artist grew up between the United States, Venezuela and France, and his music sounds like a tapestry woven together with all of the various styles he's been exposed to. A true syncretic artist, his newest album, To Hold, is an example of his ability to fuse the sounds of different global traditions into emotional tracks.

The Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was the face of a new form of Latin American modernism, melding Surrealist tendencies with indigenous beauty and revolutionary politics. Her work addressed themes of melancholy, illness, matriarchy and indigenous cultural values. The mark she left on the art world is enduring.

Uruguayan artist Carlos Torres-Garcia was a pioneer of Constructive Universalism, combining the structured grids of abstraction with symbolism that invoked pre-Columbian thought systems. The resulting works were intended to inspire a new ethos and aesthetic for Latin America, independent from Europe.

With his immersive sculptural installations, Soto sought to challenge a viewer's perception of color, line and movement. His work is a testament to his belief that the artist was an instrument for the people, and he emphasized ideas of public participation and dematerialization in his practice.

The year of the breakout artist continued on in 2023. Peruvian artist Renata Flores Rivera broke through with a message of indigenous empowerment in her trap-inspired music sung in her ancestral language. Reggaeton's biggest players like Bad Bunny and Karol G dominated the industry with their respective tours, while up-and-coming acts like Yendry and Trueno drew attention with their spontaneous, freestyle-inspired beats.
