The Shark i Robot Vacuum
The shark i robot vacuum is one of the best mid-range robot vacuums. It does an excellent job of cleaning and comes with interesting features.
It cleans floors in a thorough manner and employs a row-by-row. It also works well for rugs and will be used to move over rug tassels.
Features
The Shark i has a number of notable features, including its intelligent navigation technology and self-empty dock. Its IQ navigation utilizes the grid system to keep rooms clean, ensuring that no area of your home gets overlooked. It also emptys its dustbin into the bagless base following each cleaning, which makes it completely hands-free.
The I can also be controlled using Amazon Alexa and the SharkClean App, so there's no need for an additional remote. It also has an upper-right corner of the vacuum to manually operate it.
The app allows you to create an account for your vacuum and name it, schedule cleans and look at the history of your cleaning. You can create virtual boundaries to stop the i from entering areas where it could get stuck or fall over something fragile. You can also set different power modes, to help you save energy when working on difficult tasks.
It also has a pair grippy wheels to help it over obstacles such as stairs or floor transitions. It can detect and maneuver around obstacles like electrical cords. This is helpful for pet owners who have small shedding cats or dogs.
The i has three power settings: an energy-saving Eco mode as well as the default Normal mode and a high-power maximum mode. You can also make custom cleaning schedules for individual floors or rooms, which is great for those with a large home that requires frequent cleanings.
The i is able to be programmed to return to its dock and empty its dustbin however, you must be aware of the battery's life as it can overestimate how long it has left. It may also be confused and restart itself if you instruct it to 'Clean Your House,' so you need to be careful about when you begin or stop it.
Design
The Shark i robot has a sleek design and a premium appearance. Its main wheels are covered with rubber treads, which provide it with great maneuverability. It's compact and will be placed under most pieces of furniture. Despite its size, it is able to climb over high-pile rugs and even reach under couches.
automatic vacuum cleaner is equipped with several sensors that help to map your home including cliff and boundary sensors. It also has a module that detects and eliminates obstacles. The app lets you alter the settings of the robot and schedule cleaning times, and track its cleaning history. The app is easy to use, but it does not allow you to create virtual no-go zones.
The Shark i robot can be an ideal choice for unfinished floors. However, it's not able to take in large debris such as pet hair. It also gets stuck on messy surfaces. The dirt compartment can fill up, making it difficult to clear out after a cleaning session. The vacuum also doesn't have a self-emptying dock, so you'll have to manually empty the dust bin once it is full.
The battery of the vacuum is small and it will run out frequently before it can return to its base. It's also a bit noisy and the app does not allow you to select particular areas to clean. It's best used in conjunction with another robot vacuum rather than as a stand-alone machine. However, the benefit of being able to delegate your vacuuming duties to a robot is undeniable. The iRobot Roomba, on the other hand, comes with superior mapping and navigation capabilities, as well as a self-emptying dock. It's also less expensive than the Shark i robot.
Cleaning Performance
While it can be tricky to adjust to the robotic noise that comes with every robot vacuum, the Shark IQ seems to perform pretty well in the vacuuming department. It doesn't get confused and reverse steps like other Shark robots, such as the ION85 or RV871. The iQ does a fantastic job of mapping your home. It creates maps within the app which lets you label the rooms so that it knows where it's heading.
However, it does struggle with carpets and floors that are not clean. It can take in small particles but pet hair as well as bulkier objects like cereal and rice can be overwhelming for it. Moreover the dirt compartment is quickly filled and it can begin to lose suction power as it gets full which makes it not the best choice for flat carpets or floors with high pile. It also has a tendency to clog easily when it comes into contact with furniture that is tangled or tipped, as well as lingering items like rug tassels, electrical cords, and rug tassels.
It's simple to solve these problems by emptying its bin at the base. The dust bin automatically empties into the bin after it is full. This saves you from having to empty the dust bin at the end of each run. The extra-large bin requires emptying it every 30 days. This can lower costs for ownership in the long term.
The SharkClean App allows you to create different cleaning modes, check the battery life, make schedules, view your cleaning history, and set virtual boundaries that prevent it from entering areas where it may be entangled or knock fragile objects over. The iQ can also be controlled manually using its remote, which comes with directional arrows to guide it around your home.
Battery Life
This vacuum cleaner has exceptional battery life even in its high-suction "Max" mode. It can run for up to an hour in this mode which is more than enough time for most cleaning sessions. It also comes with an energy-efficient "Eco" mode that can extend the maximum runtime of the robot up to 160 minutes. This feature is helpful for those who frequently change rooms or are worried about running out of battery while using the robot.
Like many of its rivals, this robot vacuum has an impressive suite of automation features. The companion app lets you view the remaining battery life, send the vacuum to a specific area, pause or resume cleaning, and switch between power modes. It can also be controlled by voice commands, if have a Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa device that works with it. It comes with physical boundary markers to ensure that the robot is kept from certain areas.
Although it's maneuverable but this Shark model struggles to suck up large pieces of debris, particularly when its dirt compartment is full. It also gets stuck on electrical cords and rug tassels. It can also get stuck between the legs and the legs of chairs.
Overall all, the Shark IQ robotic vacuum is a good option for those looking for a basic robot with decent mapping capabilities and easy-to-use features. However it's not a superior option than the Roborock S7 for most purposes. The former is more robust and more durable, has less demanding maintenance requirements, incurs lower recurring costs, recharges quicker, offers an extended battery life, performs better on floors that are not bare and carpets, and moves over obstacles more easily.
