A Bitcoin halving is an event in which the reward for mining new blocks is decline in half. Which means that miners receive 50% fewer bitcoins for verifying transactions for the Bitcoin network. Halvings are programmed into Bitcoin's code and occur approximately every four years, or after every 210,000 blocks are mined.
The goal of halvings is to gradually decrease the rate of which new bitcoins are set up and eventually reach a hard and fast method of getting 21 million. This scarcity is amongst the key top features of Bitcoin, mainly because it helps you to prevent inflation and helps it be a much more attractive asset for investors.
