How To Recognize The Private ADHD Titration That's Right For You
Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service is able to provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your assessment, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your particular situation. This will take place at your follow up appointment (which could be in person via video link or by telephone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and if you decide to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process could take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child’s medication until the proper balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medications before you find the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. Parents must participate in this titration process and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with an individual prescription that you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medications. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is completed, you'll be able to make appointment with the psychiatrist as appropriate. Typically, the appointment will take place on zoom video call, although in certain cases it may be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication, as well as any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history and the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues you might be suffering from. ADHD is titration ADHD , and it's vital to look into your family's history in order to determine if you're at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

It is important that you are honest and truthful with your doctor during this assessment, as the information they gather will be used to determine if your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step in the process since a failure to do so could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication.

If you have decided that you'd like to be treated for your ADHD, we will then arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this area. If you'd like to begin treatment immediately, you can do this immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait for two weeks before considering the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

If you aren't sure what your preference is, we suggest that you talk to your GP before booking your private examination as some providers have different policies regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Find out if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a prescriptions for medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral element of the process for many people looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. It can be difficult to get an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

One way to get around this is to request your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that provides an assessment that is private and titration. This can help you save time and be more convenient, especially in the event of a hectic schedule.

If you are referred, your clinician will examine you to determine if require medication titration. You'll need to complete forms that are different for each provider but the most frequent ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories going to your childhood and into adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any conditions that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, it will typically include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to determine the best combination for you, taking into consideration any existing conditions you have. The titration can be long and may require a number of additional appointments before the dose becomes stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and amount of medication that you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. Your physician will make sure whether you are safe with the medication, document any adverse reactions you've experienced, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a dose that is safe. You will be required to attend an annual health check-up and routine health examination which includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some patients may be content with their medication, and don't require discussing their titration in more detail. If you need to discuss your titration or treatment plan further it is possible that you'll be referred back to the private clinic who made your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be included in their consultation fee and they will be given their medication on private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
