Seat Key: What Nobody Is Talking About
Why a Seat Ibiza Replacement Key Won't Work

The Ibiza is now fitted with a brand new generation of driver assistances. Travel Assist makes sure your vehicle keeps up with traffic flows while Lane Assist takes the worry out of changing lanes.

Remove the key fob's cover for the battery compartment (A). Using a thumb nail or flat-head screwdriver, prise upwards to open the cover and replace the CR2025 battery.

Dead Coin Battery

If your key fob is not working and you are unable to reprogram it the most likely reason is an inoperative battery. Replacing this should make it operational and running again. You can do it yourself in less than 10 minutes.

Open the key first by removing the rings made of metal. You can open the clip-on cover using your nail. The battery that was used is moved through the hole in the middle. Note: If seat replacement car key change the battery in a wrong way, or using a battery that's not appropriate, it could harm the remote. Always replace the battery using one with the same size, voltage and specifications as the original.

If your key device was submerged in water you might also need to clean the chip prior to replacing the battery. It's especially important if it was dropped into the ocean or in soapy water. It is essential to take care of this as soon as possible, because water can cause damage to your key fob's electronic chip.

Worn Buttons

Seat Ibiza keys stop working the majority of the time often because the coin battery is dead. It is a simple fix and can be done in a couple of minutes. The key fob can also stop working if the buttons are worn out. It is an easy fix that will require you to replace the key shell that was used to replace it with an updated one.

It is important to replace the button cell battery in a timely manner, or the key fob could be damaged. It is recommended to replace the battery with the same voltage, size and specifications. It's also important to ensure that the current battery's polarity is facing upwards.

Rubber seals should keep water away from the key fob. However when you submerge the key fob in water could cause the seals to break and harm the electronic chip inside. This is usually the case when the key fob is left in the rain or accidentally falls into the pool. If the key fob does not work after replacing it or reprogramming it or replacing the receiver module, it may be defective.

Water Damage

The key fob is fitted with rubber seals to stop water reaching the chip inside. However it's not enough to prevent the occasional splash or bath. If you've survived a wash cycle or an ocean swim your chip might be damaged.

This can be fixed by removing the battery and then cleaning the chip with isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Dry it completely and then put it back. If the chip is damaged it is necessary to replace it with a new chip.

If your key fob doesn't work after changing the battery and reprogramming it there could be due to a problem with the receiver module. This is the part of the car which receives the signals from the keyfob and transmits the signals to the key ignition system. If you have an extra key fob, you can test it. Central locking should be activated and the ignition system light should be lit. If this doesn't happen, the receiver module is not working properly. This is a costly repair but can be fixed by an expert at your local garage.

Radio Interference

If your car's stereo seems to be acting out of order or the key fob is not working it could be due to an interference issue with the receiver module in the key. This can be corrected with an alternative key and the new receiver module made by Seat parts.

To replace the battery, remove the key and gently lift the cover of the key fob's compartment for the battery with your thumb or a screwdriver made of flat heads. Remove the CR2025 battery and insert a new one, making sure that it has the correct direction of operation. You can also use an ordinary key with transponder chip previously installed on a worn or damaged key. It can be coded and cut to fit your vehicle in the event that it is needed.

Faulty Receiver Module

The receiver module is the component in the key fob that transmits the radio signals to the car. The module could be in trouble when the fob stops functioning. This can be diagnosed with an OBDII scan tool or by calling the dealer.

The remote keyless entry system is susceptible to interference from other devices that operate at the same frequency. This could include mobile phones, electronic devices, and even household appliances.

If the key fob is exposed clean tap water, it may be possible to clean the chip with paper towels and isopropyl Alcohol. If the fob's electronic chip was submerged in salty or soapy water or left for a long period of time on a wet surface it is most likely to be damaged and require to be replaced.

To replace the battery on your key fob using the thumb nail or flat-head screwdriver to open the cover of the button cell battery compartment (B). Remove the battery that was in place. Replace it with a brand new CR2025 and ensure that the "+" polarity is facing up.
