Alter Ego
Alter Ego dalam bahasa latin yang berarti "aku yang lain". Seseorang yang memiliki Alter ego dikatakan menjalani kehidupan ganda. Alter Ego merupakan diri kedua yang dipercaya berbeda daripada orang kebanyakan atau kepribadian yang sebenarnya.
Istilah Alter Ego dipakai pada awal abad ke-19 ketika gangguan pemecahan kepribadian pertama kali dijelaskan oleh psikolog. Keberadaan "diri yang lain" telah pertama kali dikenali pada tahun 1730-an oleh Anton Mesmer.
Anton Mesmer menggunakan hipnotis untuk memisahkan Alter ego. Percobaan ini menunjukkan pola perilaku berbeda dari kepribadian individu dalam keadaan sadar dibandingkan saat terhipnotis. Karakter lain dikembangkan dalam kesadaran yang berubah tapi dalam tubuh yang sama. Alter ego juga digunakan untuk merujuk perilaku berbeda setiap orang yang ditampilkan dalam keadaan tertentu.
