The Reason Private ADHD Titration Is Fast Becoming The Most Popular Trend In 2023
Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems as well as an increased global demand.

Our service offers private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

Following your assessment you will be informed that medication may be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which can be done in person, via video link or by phone). Your clinician will discuss the various medication options available. If you decide to start medication, we will help you to titrate your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process could take a few weeks. It involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medicines before you find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to be involved in this titration process, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with an individual prescription that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Usually the appointment will take place on zoom video call however in some instances it may be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options we have and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication, as well as any side effects that you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any mental health issues you may be experiencing. This is because ADHD is a genetic condition and it is important that we assess any family history that could indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During the assessment, it is crucial to be truthful and open with the doctor in the sense that they will use the information you provide to determine whether you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is an important step, as an incorrect diagnosis could result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you've decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this area. If you want to start treatment immediately you can start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and your options.

We recommend that if you are unsure about your preferences, you talk to your GP prior to booking your private assessment. Some providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. We also suggest that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who seek an official diagnosis of ADHD, medication is an important part of their journey. Finding prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and lengthy. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can choose a service who offers a private assessment service and titration. This can cut down on wait time significantly and is more convenient if you are working and have a hectic schedule.

Once you have been identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will evaluate you and determine whether or not you're required to be adjusted on your medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the main ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician determine any issues that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, it is likely to include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. They will be carefully tested and monitored to find the most effective combination for you, taking into account any medical conditions you may have. The titration process can be lengthy and may require a number of additional appointments before your dose is stable.

Based on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure whether you are stable on the medication, note any adverse reactions you have experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will be required to attend an annual health check-up and regular health check-up that includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.

titrating medication may be content with their medication, and therefore do not have to discuss their titration further. For those who require further discussion about their titration and treatment plans, it is possible that they will be referred back to the same private clinic that made their initial assessment. In this case, the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will then be administered via an individual prescription. This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
