How To Know The Private ADHD Titration That's Right For You
Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service can offer private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, and an assessment using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your assessment After your assessment, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial for your specific situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, by video link or by phone). Your physician will explain to you the various options for medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take several weeks. It involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is achieved. It is not uncommon to have to adjust up to three different medications until you discover the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to participate in this titration process and keep a close watchful eye on their child's behavior to inform the doctor if the medicine is helping or causing side effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be given as an individual prescription that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with the psychiatrist as necessary. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in some instances, it could be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss treatment options and choose a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication, as well as any side effects that you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any charges for medication.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, as well as any issues with relationships you may be facing or any other mental health problems that you may be experiencing. ADHD is a genetic condition, so it's important to examine your family history to determine if you are at a greater chance of developing this condition.

It is crucial to be honest and truthful to the doctor during the assessment, since the information they gather will be used to determine if your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step, as a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you've decided you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this area. If you'd like to begin treatment right away it is possible to start treatment when you are diagnosed. You can also take two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

We recommend that if you are unsure of your preferences, talk with your GP prior to booking your private assessment. Some providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require an GP letter. Make sure that your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic to get a medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is a key aspect of the treatment process for many people looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. It isn't always easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose an organization that offers a private assessment and titration service . This can reduce your wait time considerably and can be more convenient if you are working and have a full schedule.

If you are diagnosed, your doctor will assess your condition to determine if you require medication titration. You'll have to fill out forms that differ by provider, but the most common ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories that go to your childhood and into adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are any circumstances that indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, in the event that they've been prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, this will usually include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be thoroughly tested and monitored to find the right combination for you. The titration can be a lengthy process and may require a number of additional appointments before your dose is stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication that you are taking. They can be scheduled for monthly or quarterly. The appointment will involve your doctor making sure that you are taking the correct medication, noting any adverse effects you've experienced and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You will be required to go to an annual review and a routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

Some people may be satisfied with their treatment and therefore do not require discussing their titration process further. If you need to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan in more detail, it is possible that you'll be referred back to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in their consultation fee and they will be given their medication through private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
