)The phrases 'tosses his guts back into his body' suggests the ability of war to de-humanise
)The speaker tries to cope with his trauma by 'the drink and the drugs'. Although he says it 'wont flush him out' this shows the speaker isnt happy coming home or being on the warfield because he still sees everything the same. For excample 'he is here in my head when I close my eyes, dug in behind emenmy lines'.
)The phrase 'his bloody life in m bloody hands' suggests the soldier fears the trauma he experienced in war might live with him forever.
)He use the word ‘life’ and not ‘body’ because the speaker wants to emphasize the ability of war to de-humanise.
)“His blood-shadow stays on the street I walk over it week after week.” is an example of visceral imagery. I think this was used because the graphic nature of the imagery reflects the harsh reality of war. Also the blood symbolizes violence or death and the shadow implies that the memory is inescapable, much like a shadow following someone wherever they go.
