Kendo adalah seni beladiri modern asal jepang yang menggunakan pedang.
Berasal dari kata ken = pedang dan do = jalan. Jadi secara keseluruhan kendo berarti jalan/proses disiplin diri yang membentuk suatu pribadi samurai yang berani dan loyal.
Alat-alat kendo terdiri dari :
- seragam (kendo gi dan hakaman)
- pedang dari bambu (shinai)
- bogu (pelindung)
Ada 4 jenis serangan dalam kendo :
1. Men : tebasan kepala
2. Kote : tebasan tangan
3. Do : tebasan badan
4. Tsuki : tusukan
Pertandingan kendo diselenggarakan setingkat nasional dan internasional
Pertandingan kendo (shiai) yaitu pertandingan 1 lawan 1 baik perempuan maupun laki-laki.
Poin pertandingan adalah bila serangan mengenai sasaran (men, kote, do, tsuki) dengan kesatuan semangat, pedang dan tubuh.
