Bose QuietComfort 700 Wireless Headphones Review
Bose's noise cancellation technology can help block out ambient sounds and the rumble of aeroplane engines. It also produces a range premium wireless headphones.
The latest Bose Sport Earbuds Truly Wireless are smaller and sleeker than the QuietComfort buds, with superior microphones for calls. They're also sweat-resistant and come with an charging case.
Active Noise Cancellation
Bose QuietComfort headphones are known for their excellent noise cancellation. However Bose also offers an array of premium headphones that don't require or provide this feature. The products typically have a premium price point and make use of top materials, however, they're also light and sweat-proof, making them comfortable for long listening sessions.
The flagship 700s is a great example. They feature an upgraded eight-microphone system (six to cancel sound, and two for picking up voice) and 11 custom ANC modes that allow you to hear the world or block it out completely. They also have a "Conversation Mode", which allows you to temporarily stop the music in order to announce an event or make a phone call.
Another fantastic feature is the Bose TruSleeve, a removable cover that wraps around your neck and rests on your upper ear for extra sound reduction when you're out and about. It's available on all QuietComfort products and can be customized using the app to suit your lifestyle and ear.
In comparison to our top pick the Sony WH-1000XM5, the 700s have a superior microphone performance for phone calls. This makes them a good choice for people who take calls frequently and want to be clearly heard while on the move.
The headphones can be connected to your mobile device via Bluetooth 4.2 and Bose's exclusive A2DP protocol. They also support aptX Adaptive and aptX HD, making them an ideal choice for audiophiles who have sources that support these high-quality wireless codecs. Bose comes with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable for wired listening. They're optimized for Google Assistant and Alexa. The headphones come with a battery that can last up to 20 hours, and they'll provide quick, easy charging through the USB-C port on the right earcup.
Sound Quality
Bose is known for its noise cancellation technology, which can effectively block out office chatter or the engine noise of plane engines. However, the company also offers headphones and earbuds that have good sound quality, too. All models are compatible with Bose Connect (older models). They come with a range of features, including settings for audio including battery monitoring, adjustable controls, and listening modes. They're also platform-neutral compatible with Apple, Android, and Windows devices.
The QuietComfort45 headphones from Bose are Bose's most immersive wireless over-ear headphone. They use Bluetooth 5.1 for multi-point pairing. They also include an USB-C charging port at the bottom of each cup. They also come with an audio cable with an 3.5mm plug on the other end for wired listening and feature an ANC button on the left earcup. The app allows you to set the ANC at three different levels, and switch on the hear-through mode to play ambient noises.
They're light for headphones that are designed to be worn for long periods of time and come with soft cushions that fit comfortably on the ears. The sound is vibrant and bright and has a solid bass response that is well-controlled. The treble might not be as crisp as the top-rated models like the Sony WH1000XM4 and Jabra Elite85H, but it's punchy enough to suit most music genres.
They also come with a great microphone that allows hands-free calls and include an assistant for voice that does a great job of separating your speech from the background noise when answering questions. The Bose Connect and Bose Music apps let you alter the audio settings and alter the EQ. However, we've noticed the Bose voice that informs you of things such as battery status and whether you're connected is a bit robotic, as opposed to the more natural voices of the Sony and Jabra models.
Comfort
Bose headphones are comfortable, whether they're over-ear or on the go. Bose's headphones are typically exquisitely padded without being tight on the head, and they come with a an extremely balanced sound profile which makes them suitable for most genres. Many Bose headphones have an accompanying app that includes an image equalizer that can aid in fine tuning your music.
The Bose QuietComfort 45 wireless over-ear headphones are among the most comfortable headphones we've tried, with a comfortable and soft headband as well as soft earpads. They're extremely lightweight and sweat-proof, and you can listen for hours without feeling uncomfortable. The earcups are able to rotate around the plastic stems which extend from the headband. This gives you flexibility and helps ensure they are secure around your ear.
The Bose QC45s impressed us with their noise cancellation and audio quality. The sound is clear vibrant, detailed, and clear with clear mids and crisp highs. The headphones have a neutral midrange response, which means voices are reproduced accurately. The only drawback is that they do not support the most current Bluetooth codecs, such as aptX Adaptive or LDAC, which allow playback that is lossless.
The Bose Sport Earbuds are smaller and sleeker than the company's flagship QuietComfort Earbuds, making them ideal for working out and running. The earbuds come with a battery life of up to 5 hours, which is enough for the majority of workouts. The buds come with a built in microphone and are water resistant. You can control the buds using the remote included or the companion app. The app allows you to adjust settings for Bose Aware Mode and ANC.
Controls
The 700s do not feature physical controls on the ear cups unlike the majority of Bose's headphones. You'll find an electronic touch panel on the right ear cup that can be used to swipe or tap your finger. Tap twice to play or stop, swipe up to raise the volume, and down to lower it, and then forward to skip tracks. One tap answers calls and the double tap will reject an incoming call.
The headset lets you toggle the "aware" mode, which allows some passthrough of your surroundings. It's a great feature for anyone who needs to be aware of their surroundings while listening to music or making phone calls.
A motion detector shuts off your headphones when you are not using them. It's a welcome addition for those who don't remember to turn off their headphones or get distracted while using the headphones. You can alter the Auto-Off timer settings on your Bose 700 headphones using the Bose Connect app.
The app lets you modify the features of the headphones including audio settings, noise cancelling levels, and languages for voice prompts. You can also download updates for your Bose headsets. You may be asked to share certain personal details in order to use this feature however that's normal for this kind of application. It's also where you can define your Bluetooth connectivity preferences, and it has a helpful battery reading function that lets you know how much power is left in your headphones. You can download the free Bose Connect app from your iOS device's App Store or Google Play. The app requires that your smartphone or tablet be connected via Bluetooth. Once it's connected, you can select an option to create a profile and find your headset.
Design
Bose has a reputation for comfortable headphones, and the majority of their models do a good job at keeping the listener's ears safe from ambient noise. Their sound is generally well-balanced and able to function across genres without much adjustments. They are also very portable and robust. This makes them a great choice for traveling.
A big part of what makes Bose headphones so popular is their noise cancelling. The NCH700s feature 10 levels of noise cancellation, which is impressive even at maximum. Six of the eight microphones are tucked into the headband to help keep voices away from background noise. Two of the mics double as noise-rejection sensors to help eliminate echo and background hiss during voice calls.
Contrary to some of their rivals, Bose headphones tend to have a simple design with just a few buttons on the headband. The left cup has an adjustable noise-cancelling switch, and the right cup has toggles to power/Bluetooth or launch digital assistants. There's also a touch-sensitive panel on the right side of the cup that allows you to play/pause music, skip tracks, and adjust volume with simple gestures.
Bose headphones are ideal for mobile use. headphones shops of models, both on and over the ear, have ample padding to ensure a comfortable fit. They're also extremely light and portable which makes them a great option for trips. The only drawback to the Bose headphone lineup is that their wireless headphones don't block out as much ambient noise as some of their competition. This shouldn't be a problem for most users, especially as Bose also offers dedicated active noise cancelling earbuds designed for exercise (like the QuietComfort Earbuds II Truly Wireless). This lets you monitor your surroundings and still enjoy the comfort of your favorite music.
