Bose QuietComfort 700 Wireless Headphones Review
Bose's noise cancelling technology will help block out ambient sounds and the rumble from aeroplane engines. It also produces a range premium wireless headphones.
The latest Bose Sport Earbuds Truly Wireless have a smaller, sleeker design than the QuietComfort buds and a better microphone that can take calls. They're also sweat-resistant and come with an charging case.
Active Noise Cancellation
The Bose QuietComfort line is known for its excellent noise cancellation, but the company makes plenty of high-quality headphones and earbuds that don't need or offer it. The products are typically high priced and constructed of premium materials. They're also lightweight and sweat-resistant, as well as comfortable enough to listen for long periods.
The flagship 700s is a great example. They feature an upgraded eight-microphone system (six to cancel sound, and two for picking up voices) and 11 customizable ANC modes that allow you to hear the world around you or block it out completely. They also come with a "Conversation Mode" button that lets you temporarily pause your music in order to make an emergency call or make a quick announcement.
Another fantastic feature is the Bose TruSleeve, a removable cover that wraps around the neck and rests on your upper ear for additional noise reduction while you're out and about. It's available for all QuietComfort models and can be adjusted via the app to fit your ears and your lifestyle.
In comparison to our top pick which is the Sony WH-1000XM5, the 700s have a superior audio quality for phone calls. This makes them a good choice for people who take calls frequently and need to be heard clearly traveling.
The headphones can be connected to your mobile device with Bluetooth 4.2 and Bose's proprietary A2DP protocol. They also support aptX Adaptive and aptX HD which makes them an ideal choice for audiophiles who have sources that support these high-quality wireless codecs. Bose includes a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable for wired listening. They're also optimized for Google Assistant and Alexa. The headphones are powered by a battery with a lasts up to 20 hours, and a USB-C charging port on the right earcup.
Sound Quality
Bose has earned a name for its noise cancelling technology, which effectively blocks out the rumble of aeroplane engines or office chatter. But the brand also offers headphones and earbuds that have good sound quality, too. All models are compatible with Bose Connect (older models). They offer a variety of options that include settings for audio and battery monitoring, as well as customizable controls, and listening modes. They're also platform-neutral, and are compatible with Apple, Android and Windows devices.
The QuietComfort45 headphones from Bose are Bose's best-sounding wireless over-ear headphone. They use Bluetooth 5.1 for multi-point pairing. They also come with an USB-C charging port located on the bottom of each cup. The headphones come with a cable with a 3.5mm plug at the other end, allowing for wired listening. They also have an ANC button that is located on the left earcup. You can set the ANC to three levels through the app and switch on hear-through modes for ambient sounds.
The headphones are lightweight and designed to be worn for long periods. They come with soft cushions which are comfortable on the ears. Sound is bright and dynamic and has solid bass that is well-controlled. The treble might not be as crisp as top-rated rivals like the Jabra Elite85H, however it's punchy enough to suit most music genres.
They also have a fantastic microphone for hands-free phone calls and an assistant for voice which does a good job of separating your speech from ambient noise when answering questions. The Bose Connect and Bose Music apps allow you to adjust the audio settings and customize the EQ. The Bose voice, which tells you about things like battery status and if you're connected, sounds a little robotic, compared to the more natural voices found on the Sony and Jabra models.
Comfort
Comfort is among Bose's strengths, regardless of whether you're listening in an over or on-ear headphone. The headphones of the company are typically comfortable and don't feel too tight on your head. They also have a well-balanced sound profile, which makes them suitable for a broad range of genres. If you're looking to adjust the sound, you'll find that many of the Bose headphones come with a companion application with a graphic EQ to help you adjust your music.
The Bose QuietComfort45 Wireless over-ear headphones feature a pliable headband, plush earpads, and a soft and flexible earband. They are among the most comfortable headphones that we've tried. The headphones are lightweight, sweat-resistant and comfortable to wear for long durations of time. The earcups can be swiveled around the plastic stems which extend from the headband. This allows for flexibility and helps ensure they are secure around your ear.
The Bose Qc45s impressed us by their noise cancellation and audio quality. The sound is incredibly rich and detailed, with punchy bass, clear mids and clear highs. The headphones also have a very neutral midrange response, which means that voices reproduce well. The only issue with these headphones is that they don't support the latest Bluetooth codes, such as aptX Adaptive and LDAC, which allow for lossless playback.
The Bose Sport Earbuds are smaller and sleeker than the Bose's flagship QuietComfort Earbuds, making them ideal for running and working out. The earbuds come with a battery life of up to 5 hours, which is plenty for most workouts. They are waterproof and have a built-in microphone for voice assistant integration. You can control them using the remote that comes with them or via the companion app. You can use the app to alter the settings for ANC and Bose's Aware Mode.
Controls
The 700s do not feature physical controls for the ear cups unlike most of Bose's headphones. You'll find an electronic touch panel on the right ear cup, which can be used to swipe or tap your finger. Tap twice to play or pausing, swipe up to raise the volume, and down to lower it, and forward to skip tracks. One tap answers calls and a double-tap rejects any call that comes in.
The headset also lets users to switch between a mode called "aware," which enables some passthrough of your surroundings. It's a handy feature for anyone who has to be aware of their environment while listening to music or making phone calls.
A motion detector shuts off your headphones when they are not in use. It's a great feature for those who don't remember to turn off their headphones or get distracted while using headphones. headphonesshop allows you to change the Auto-Off setting on your Bose headphones.
The app allows you to alter the features of your headphones, including the audio settings, noise cancellation levels and the languages used for voice prompts. You can also download updates for your Bose headsets. This app may require you to provide personal information, but this is normal. It's also where you'll set your Bluetooth connection preferences, and it has an excellent battery reading feature that lets you know how much charge is remaining in your headphones. You can download the free Bose Connect app from your iOS device's App Store or Google Play. The app requires an Bluetooth connection to your tablet or smartphone. Once it's connected, you can choose a profile and locate your headset.
Design
Bose has a reputation for comfortable headphones. The majority of their models do a great job at keeping the listener's ears insulated against ambient sound. Their sound is generally balanced and flexible enough to work across genres without a lot of adjustments. Their headphones are also quite sturdy and portable which makes them a great choice for trips.
A large part of what makes Bose headphones so popular is their noise cancellation. The NCH700s come with 10 levels of noise cancellation, which is impressive even when you are at maximum. Their microphones are also stellar with six of the eight microphones tucked inside of the headband helping to isolate voices from ambient noise. Two of the microphones function as noise-rejection sensors to block background noise and echo during calls.
Bose headphones are minimalistic in design, and have only two buttons. The left side of the cup is equipped with an adjustable noise-cancelling switch, and the right cup has toggles to power/Bluetooth or launch digital assistants. There's also a capacitive touch panel on the right cup which lets you play/pause music, skip tracks, and adjust volume using simple gestures.
Bose headphones are perfect for use on the move. Most models that sit on or over the ear, have ample padding to ensure an ideal fit. They're also extremely lightweight and compact which makes them a great option for trips. The only downside to the Bose headphone line is that their wireless headphones do not block out as much ambient sound as their rivals. Bose makes active noise cancelling earbuds that are made for use in the gym. (Like the QuietComfort Earbuds II Truely Wireless). This lets you keep track of your surroundings and still enjoy the ease of listening to your favorite music.
