Call for Feedback: Smart Places Strategic Framework

Hills Shire Council seems forward to hearing any community feedback on the Smart Places Strategic Framework, a plan to smoothen the implementation of ‘smart’ applied sciences in The Hills.

The draft offers a long-term strategy to encourage innovation, tackle city challenges, entice investment and improve the overall liveability of the area.

The Council says Smart Places provides an observable impact to residents because it eases day-to-day capabilities with the use of varied applied sciences and knowledge.

The draft Smart Places Strategic Framework presents six Smart Place themes to guide The Hills’ transformation into a “Smart Place.” These include Movement, Placemaking and Liveability, Economy, Sustainability and Resilience, Digital Inclusion, and Governance.

A vital chunk of the stakeholder funding will be directed on “high growth areas and locations” with the best density of residents, employees, and guests and large-scale redevelopment and transformation similar to Strategic Centres: Norwest, Rouse Hill, and Castle Hill.

The draft framework also aligns with the Council’s Precinct Plans for the three Strategic Centres and the Council’s Economic Growth Plan.

Council defines “Smart Places” as areas where expertise, data, and innovation are used to increase the effectivity of everyday processes and remedy numerous challenges, thereby selling a better way of life for its residents.

Existing applied sciences and methods are presently in place, which the draft Smart Place Strategic framework intends to build on for the continuous and future implementation of these applied sciences. These present applied sciences include:

Flood warning techniques on some bridges

Remote access to Council sporting services
Solar panels on the Council’s Administration Building
Electric automobile charging stations at the Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre
Water stage sensors in some dams
Free public Wi-Fi in main retail centres
Facilitating the submission of types, payments and functions online
Increased utilisation of QR Codes
The public exhibition of the Framework opened for the general public on 13 November 2023 and will stay as such until Monday, eleven December 2023, at 5:00 PM. Feedback may be despatched to the Council’s Have Your Say online section right here.

After the exhibition, the Council could have its Post-Exhibition in its timeline in early 2024, and shall be finalised between early to mid-2024.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi, mentioned the draft proves the Council’s help for selling innovation and stimulating economic advantages.

“Becoming a Smart Place is the best way of the longer term,” Mayor Gangemi mentioned.

“This Framework supplies a foundation for considering how applied sciences may be responsibly included into our public areas to reinforce them and make these spaces even higher.

“We are encouraging innovation via expertise that can be utilized to extend resilience and safety during natural disasters while encouraging the uptake of energy-efficient technologies to assist our local setting thrive.

“The draft Framework also explores how technologies can higher help the local financial system, making business areas more enticing for companies to arrange shop here.
