Farewell Afar

I hide in the Winter
I hide in the clouds
I cover my ears from the carols of the crowds
I block out the music and neglect the whole scene
For Winter is never supposed to be green
When I flee, the leaves flutter down
Then they're painted snow-white over ice stricken ground
Yet the trees keep their beauty
Bare they may be, they always rebirth when I say that it’s Spring
Many are doleful when they see I've retreated
They feel dejected and dismal and so very defeated
Friends, don’t you see?
It isn't that I am not wanted
But in such a bright season, I am not needed
The rooftops, the smiles, even the snow
Light up the world with a heartwarming glow
When Spring emerges slow and the chill still won’t let go
Christmas lights may be high and the clouds may be low
If the rain doesn’t cease, there is no rainbow
But don’t look at the rain, look around at what you are missing
The trees can still sparkle and the frost can still glisten
You can still hear the sleigh bells if you make time to listen
There’s magic inhaled with every sharp breath of air
A divine zeitgeist of Winter I cannot compare
The most enchanted of seasons is not a time to despair
I promise by August the Earth will revolve and I will revive
So please don't be angry when I don't arrive
It's only because the spirit of Winter is still so alive
