Marie Curie's research on radioactivity was pioneering. Along with her husband Pierre, she discovered the radioactive elements polonium and radium.

DIAPO 1 :
In the 19th century, Poland was dominated by the Russian Empire, which was repressing Polish nationalists. Higher education wasn't allowed for women. Radioactive phenomena were only starting to be studied by scientists at that time.

Diapo 2 :
Marie Curie was born in Warsaw in 1867 with the name Maria Salomea Skłodowska. She grew up under the repressive Russian regime that dominated Poland. From a young age, she had a passion for science and mathematics. Later she arrived in Paris in 1891 (she was 24). With her husband Pierre she discovered the radioactive elements polonium and radium.

DIAPO 3 :
During World War I, Marie Curie developed “Little Curies”: a mobile radiology unit. As she was in France, the real name of these ambulances was « Petites Curies » , to allow injured soldiers to be treated near the front lines. These ambulances were equipped with radiology apparatus.

Marie Curie influenced the world through her discoveries on radioactivity which revolutionized physics and paved the way for the study of nuclear physics. As if she died cause of her works (the danger of radioactivity wasn't known) Marie Curie left behind her a major scientific legacy, Despite obstacles as a woman in science in her time, she persevered tenaciously, paving the way for modern nuclear physics. Her outstanding achievements make her a role model for women scientists, and she forever changed the place of women across scientific fields.
