การเลี้ยงไก่เป็นกิจกรรมที่ได้รับความนิยมเป็นอย่างมากในปัจจุบัน เนื่องจากไก่เป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงที่เลี้ยงง่าย โตไว และสามารถนำไปใช้ประโยชน์ได้หลากหลาย เช่น ไข่ไก่ เนื้อไก่ เป็นต้น
การเลี้ยงไก่แบบง่าย สามารถทำได้ดังนี้
1. **เลือกสายพันธุ์ไก่** ควรเลือกสายพันธุ์ไก่ที่เหมาะสมกับวัตถุประสงค์ในการเลี้ยง เช่น หากต้องการเลี้ยงเพื่อเก็บไข่ ควรเลือกสายพันธุ์ไก่ที่วางไข่ดก เช่น โรดไอแลนด์เรด เลห์กอร์ เป็นต้น หากต้องการเลี้ยงเพื่อเก็บเนื้อ ควรเลือกสายพันธุ์ไก่ที่โตเร็วและให้เนื้อเยอะ เช่น ไก่เบตเตอร์คอก เป็นต้น
2. รั้วตาข่าย *เตรียมสถานที่เลี้ยง** สถานที่เลี้ยงไก่ควรเป็นสถานที่ที่มีอากาศถ่ายเทสะดวก อยู่ห่างจากแหล่งมลพิษ และมีพื้นที่เพียงพอสำหรับเลี้ยงไก่
3. **เตรียมอุปกรณ์เลี้ยง** อุปกรณ์เลี้ยงไก่ที่จำเป็น ได้แก่ กรงเลี้ยง อาหารไก่ น้ำดื่มไก่
4. **เลี้ยงไก่** การดูแลไก่เลี้ยงง่าย ๆ สามารถทำได้ดังนี้
* รดน้ำให้ไก่วันละ 1-2 ครั้ง
* ให้อาหารไก่วันละ 2-3 ครั้ง
* เก็บไข่ไก่ทุกวัน
* ทำความสะอาดกรงเลี้ยงไก่สัปดาห์ละ 1 ครั้ง
5. **ป้องกันโรค** ควรหมั่นสังเกตอาการของไก่ หากพบอาการผิดปกติควรรีบนำไก่ไปพบสัตวแพทย์
ตัวอย่างสายพันธุ์ไก่ที่นิยมเลี้ยงในประเทศไทย ได้แก่
* **ไก่ไข่** เช่น โรดไอแลนด์เรด เลห์กอร์ ฮินดูบราห์มัน
* **ไก่เนื้อ** เช่น ไก่เบตเตอร์คอก ไก่โรดไอแลนด์แดง ไก่ฮาน
* **ไก่พื้นเมือง** เช่น ไก่ชน ไก่แจ้ ไก่บ้าน
การเลี้ยงไก่แบบง่าย สามารถทำได้ตามขั้นตอนข้างต้น เพียงเท่านี้คุณก็จะได้ไก่เลี้ยงไว้รับประทานหรือจำหน่ายสร้างรายได้
