Easter Sunday Movie Review giant
Jo Koy tries to channel the dynamics of his massive Filipino-American family in his function movie debut, but Easter Sunday is too broad and too cliched to hit its mark. It’s a love letter to the comedian’s neighborhood, however an arrogance challenge that falls far wanting its potential.

Featuring an ensemble cast of big-name comedians, the movie focuses on Joe Valencia (Joe Koy), a Los Angeles actor and stand-up comic who returns house for a vacation weekend along with his riotous, bickering clan. Despite being ridiculed for his offensive Tagalog accent on the TV present that made him famous, Joe remains true to himself and to the chaos of his household.

The comedy cliches are familiar, but they work well sufficient within the context of the film. The characters really feel actual, and the easy interactions among the many family members generate some good laughs. The humor leans toward the broad, like the slapstick and puns that make up most of Koy’s act, but also consists of some nice cultural references and references to the broader household dynamic.

But, the film is finally let down by a narrative that goes nowhere and a script that telegraphs each joke from start to finish. Koy tries to inject some of his stage appeal into the movie, however the calls for of the film enterprise rob him of his dynamic means with a story and his capability to merge that solo performance craft with narrative, dialogue, performing, different people’s acting, and pacing. Hints of his natural allure and insights into the Filipino community do burst via sometimes, but only after you have spent 90 minutes making an attempt to suppress your boredom.
