How To Make An Amazing Instagram Video About Mental Health Services NHS
Mental Health Services on the NHS

The NHS has responded to the increase in mental health issues by providing services. This includes:

The Long Term Plan has made a renewed commitment to grow the investment in mental health services quicker than the NHS budget overall. This will include specialized work in suicide prevention.

Get help

One of four of us will experience mental health issues at some moment in our lives. The good news is that there are plenty of different ways to get assistance and the majority of us recover with time. It is crucial to know the types of help available and who can offer it.

You can seek help from a variety of sources, including your GP (primary medical doctor for primary care) as well as your local health centre or a community mental health team. These teams consist of nurses, occupational therapists psychotherapists, psychotherapists, and speech and language therapists who collaborate with people who use the service. Depending on the type of help you need you could receive individual or group therapy.

You will be asked to fill out a form from your GP so they can refer you to a mental health service in the community. They will also ask you what you require in terms of support. You will then be examined by someone from a mental health team that could include a psychiatrist, social worker or psychologist. In some instances the assessment and treatment will be conducted by a clinical nurse specialist. If you're in an emergency, you can contact the NHS 111 helpline for urgent support. If you are already receiving mental health support it is recommended to call your usual team first, unless out of office hours, on a weekend or a bank holiday.

listen to this podcast for Mental Health included plans to establish more multidisciplinary, community-based, place-based mental health teams, with connections to primary care networks. These plans will aid in improving the quality of care that is delivered to people who are suffering from a mental health crisis. They will also offer assistance within their communities and homes rather than in hospitals.

The plan aims to make crisis services more accessible by decreasing wait times and opening up more beds. It also proposed to introduce mental health transport vehicles and make sure that every ambulance has an official who is a mental health liaison in their control rooms to improve the way that those suffering from a mental health crisis are helped in times of crisis.

Treatment options

The NHS offers a wide array of treatment options for mental health issues. GPs typically have the ability to treat milder disorders, but more serious conditions will require a specialist team. These teams are located in community and primary mental healthcare services and psychiatric hospitals. There are also safe spaces where you can seek help for those who are in crisis.

Talking therapies are among the most popular forms of treatment for anxiety and depression. Previously referred to as IAPT These programs have seen referrals increase every year since they were introduced in 2008. The NHS Long Term Plan has committed to expanding these services to 1.9 million people by 2023/2024.

Psychiatric drugs are a different component of treatment. They can help alleviate symptoms by altering how the brain's chemicals function. They can also be used to minimize the adverse effects of other treatments. Your doctor will prescribe the appropriate medicine for you.

There are a variety of talk therapies, such as individual therapy and group therapy. Some of these therapies can be offered in person, while other can be done online. Some patients prefer face-to-face treatment, but it is an individual choice. Mind is one of many charities that offer support groups and courses. The site contains a wealth of information that is trustworthy but you should be aware of the fact that there are numerous false or misleading claims on the internet concerning mental health issues.

The NHS is advancing mental health care but it struggles to meet the demands. There are 54 mental health trusts in the UK, and most of are funded by clinical commissioning groups to provide their services. They are usually located in a particular region however they can also be contracted to provide national services.

The lack of resources is a major issue. There are concerns over the quality and availability of nurses and psychiatrists. The NHS is working to improve the services by introducing new ways of work and providing more training. It also introduces more secure and efficient methods to help people in crisis like mobile crisis teams and safe areas.

Supporting you

Since the NHS was launched 70 years ago there have been positive developments for those suffering from mental health issues. The treatment options have gotten better and social barriers have been broken down. But there is much more to be done.

People who are suffering from mental health problems must be able to access the assistance they require quickly and easily. The NHS is working to improve its services to ensure that those in need can get assistance. By 2020/21, we will make sure that all acute hospitals have a mental health liaison service both in A&E and on inpatient wards and that 70% of these will meet the standard of 24 by 2023/24. Then we will strive to achieve 100% coverage.

We will also increase services for those who require them in the community, such as therapy for talking, which will give hundreds of thousands of people with common or severe mental health issues the help they require. We will continue to develop our national Improving Access to Psychological Therapies program (IAPT) to ensure that more people with mental health problems are seen faster by qualified therapists.

The NHS provides confidential, free helplines to anyone struggling with mental health issues. These include the Samaritans and Mind and Rethink. These helplines are run entirely by volunteers who provide the opportunity to talk in a secure environment or provide advice and information on how to deal your mental health issues.

There are also local organizations that can offer support and guidance to people suffering from mental health issues. These include self-help guides, coping strategies, and activities to try. Many of these organizations also offer face-to-face support groups for those who prefer this option.

For students, there's the University's Open Door Team which offers the opportunity to visit a counselling center for those who are feeling down or stressed. Nightline is a student counseling service that offers private listening, support and information from experienced volunteers. Charities such as Mind and Rethink can provide a wealth of information and support, both online and in local groups. They can offer a range of classes and activities, including mindfulness classes to art classes, which are useful for people with mental health issues.

Referring someone to you

Mental health services are under strain and GPs have to make difficult decisions about the best specialist services to refer their patients to. The GP will take a patient's medical history into account and then recommend them to a service they think can assist. They might send a referral to an NHS trust or an independent provider.

A mental health specialist will assess the referral to determine if it's appropriate or not. If the specialist isn't pleased with the referral they will contact the GP to discuss their decision and provide the reason. They can also request the GP for more details or to alter the referral.

The referral to a local Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) may be made via the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS). The system lets doctors and other healthcare professionals refer patients to either a preliminary assessment service for mental health or directly to an appointment. However there are some exceptions. CMHTs offer both options and the system can't be used for every kind of mental health referral.

A GP may decide to refer a patient to a specialized community mental health service (CMT). These are usually run either by an extensive hospital or a local health care organization. CMTs are an excellent option for those who need to consult a psychologist or psychiatrist, but do not require inpatient care. They can also provide an early intervention program, where a psychiatrist works with a therapist to help a person overcome a crisis or increase their quality of life.

CMTs are faced with the task of ensuring that all referrals are made within a reasonable time. One of the problems is that a lot of referrals are considered urgent, despite the fact that they might not be. This can lead to delays and over-working for those who aren't in a crisis.

To address this issue some CMHTs are trying to establish more consistent guidelines for what constitutes an urgent referral. This has been accomplished through the use of a standardised referral proforma that requires a referrer to consider whether the case is urgent. The proforma includes a box that the referrer can tick in the event that they believe the referral is urgent.
