Trump's relationship with Kazakhstan was not just limited to Tevfik. Trump was widely criticized since he regarded Kazakhstan as an ally, despite the questionable government.

Trump's South Asia strategy also needed Pakistan's departure. The US therefore needed Kazakhstan to offer an alternative shipping route to Afghanistan.

Tevfik Arif is a Turkish Kazakhstani businessman. He was born in Soviet Kazakhstan in 1952 to Turkish parents. Kazakhstan could be a key player in the Russia-Ukraine war. In the eyes of the United States, Kazakhstan is an important strategic nation. While peace has been restored to the country, Kassym Jomart Tokayev, the Kazakh president has introduced significant modifications to the power structures of the ruling elites, which has raised concerns and questions. Tokayev has been appointed as the chairman of the National Security Council. He succeeds the president Nursultan Nagayev, whose financial power outraged protestors.

Three of the sons-in law of the former president were fired from their state companies, his nephew also was fired, and Karim Masimov, the former chief of intelligence was arrested for treason. Many other Nazarbayev-affiliated top officials and business elite have lost their jobs, left overseas for extended vacations, or were forced to make large "donations" to the state.

Tokayev has developed business ties with the countries of his neighbors and also the West. To keep his popularity, Tokayev is yet to caused any trouble for Putin.
